Disney+ Drops Release Date for Suspect: The Shooting of Jean Charles de Menezes

After announcing the cast members in February, Disney Plus’s upcoming drama “Suspect: The Shooting of Jean Charles de Menezes” finally has a confirmed release date, which is just around the corner.

The story unfolds following the 2005 suicide bombings and explores the sequence of events that resulted in the mistaken identification of Brazilian electrician Jean Charles de Menezes (portrayed by newcomer Edison Alcaide) as a terrorist, ultimately leading to his death at the hands of Metropolitan Police firearms officers.

The broadcaster shared that the entire four-episode season will become available simultaneously on Wednesday, April 30th, 2025.

Initial glimpses reveal actors portraying their roles, such as Emily Mortimer (depicted as Paddington in Peru) assuming the part of Cressida Dick, and Russell Tovey from ‘Years and Years’ stepping into the role of Deputy Assistant Commissioner Brian Paddick.

As a cinephile, I’d rephrase it this way: “In this production, I’m accompanied by Daniel Mays from Line of Duty, portraying Cliff Todd, a chemist at the Forensic Explosives Laboratory. Additionally, Laura Aikman from Gavin & Stacey is cast as Lana Vandenberghe, a secretary for the Independent Police Complaints Commission who bravely blew the whistle on the case by leaking information to the media.

Todd has gone on to write a book titled Explosive detailing his experiences with the FEL.

In the role of Laura Aikman, Lana Vandenberghe stars in “Suspect: The Shooting of Jean Charles de Menezes,” directed by Des Willie for Disney+, 2023.
