Nintendo recently held an exclusive event, the Nintendo Direct, focusing on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 console launching on June 5th, 2025. This event served as a sneak peek into the games players can anticipate playing on this new platform. One exciting reveal was the latest game from FromSoftware: The Duskbloods. This intriguing title will be exclusive to Nintendo Switch 2 owners, marking its arrival on their platform. Following the announcement, Game Director Hidetaka Miyazaki shared additional details about The Duskbloods in a special interview with Nintendo.
In their announcement, FromSoftware unveiled “The Duskbloods” as a multiplayer game that combines PvP (Player vs Player) and PvE (Player vs Environment) elements, accommodating up to eight players in online matches. Hidetaka Miyazaki explained that this new title will offer an online multiplayer experience where players engage in combat not only with other players but also with various enemies populating the game’s environment. Although “The Duskbloods” and “Elden Ring: Nightreign” are both centered around multiplayer aspects, FromSoftware has no intention of transitioning into an exclusive multiplayer development studio.
In this game, you’ll step into the shoes of a “Bloodsworn” member. The Bloodsworn are individuals who gain entry through the extraordinary powers in their blood, which endow them with superhuman abilities. The significance of blood in the game is highlighted by Miyazaki: “Blood represents one of the game’s central themes – the history it embodies, the power it transmits, the destinies it shapes, and the mark of those who have transcended the bounds of human limitations.
In the pinnacle of human existence, an occurrence known as “First Blood” takes place during the Twilight of Humanity. The Bloodsworn, individuals summoned from different eras and locations, are invited to battle for the First Blood in this fateful event. Similarly, players’ characters are referred to as The Duskbloods, which encompasses any character controlled by the player.
Players can select from more than a dozen distinct character classes, each boasting unique looks, abilities, and weaponry. These characters will all possess some form of long-range combat capabilities, which might involve firearms (depending on the specific character). Additionally, there will be an element of customization to help players develop one-of-a-kind character profiles.
Fundamentally, “The Duskbloods” is a multiplayer game primarily centered around battles, accommodating up to eight participants. Victory or defeat in these battles often hinges on a last-man-standing format, although there might be situations where players must collaborate to vanquish a formidable non-player character (NPC) boss to secure victory. In the online setting, players can adopt distinct roles such as Rival Destined or Companion Destined, which alter their objectives within a match. For instance, in the role of Rival Destined, another player will be assigned as your rival. Overcoming this rival completes a personal objective; however, these personal goals are independent of the conditions for match victory.
At the conclusion of any game, participants will be given incentives irrespective of whether they emerge victorious or suffer defeat. These rewards can then be utilized for modifying the appearance of their characters. Intriguingly, as part of the game’s narrative, each alteration sheds light on the world’s background, subtly connecting to “bloodline legacy and destiny.
In addition to The Duskbloods being unveiled as an exclusive for Nintendo Switch 2, FromSoftware has revealed another world exclusive – Elden Ring will be available on the Nintendo Switch 2 as well. Gamers who follow the series or are eagerly awaiting Elden Ring can look forward to playing Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition on their Switch 2 later this year.
Although The Duskbloods is exclusive for Nintendo Switch 2 users, enthusiasts of FromSoftware’s games can anticipate Elden Ring: Nightreign, set to launch on May 30, 2025. This separate sequel, too, will provide co-op experiences within the Elden Ring universe for players to enjoy.
