Tonight’s Monday Night Raw kicked off with the Women’s World Championship, where Iyo Sky, Bianca Belair, and Rhea Ripley made their way to the ring. Last week, Belair’s referee role ended in turmoil, so tonight, Raw General Manager Adam Pearce announced that at WrestleMania, these three will battle it out in a Triple Threat match. While this may not have come as a shock, the victor of this contest and its impact on the roster could be unexpected.
First off, let’s consider if Ripley takes the Title. It wouldn’t be too unexpected an outcome, but it would surely delight the spectators. You see, Ripley hasn’t been without the Title for a very long time, which somewhat diminishes the excitement of her winning it back so quickly. However, the crowd will undoubtedly erupt with joy at a Ripley victory no matter what.
If Ripley loses, the storyline becomes more intriguing, depending on how character interactions unfold. Tensions have been escalating between Ripley and Belair, so if Sky retains the title, there’s potential for a long-standing feud to continue. Alternatively, Belair could sabotage Ripley’s chances, leading to an exclusive program centered around them, pushing Belair to fully embrace the heel role.
I believe that path is the most captivating for Belair’s future development, but there’s a potential problem with it. Lately, Naomi has been excelling as a heel character, and this transformation was sparked by a plot involving Belair. If we were to make Belair turn heel so soon afterward, it could detract from the impact of Naomi’s success. However, you could also intertwine these stories further and create a cohesive narrative if desired.
In the Title picture for Monday Night Raw, there aren’t many characters currently portraying villainous roles (heels). Unless there are changes in the roster between Raw and SmackDown or someone makes a comeback, it’s unclear who could take on the heel role at this time, unless a character is re-positioned. Potentially, Bayley could be turned into a heel again, but she was recently playing that role. The most significant impact might come from Bianca Belair, as she hasn’t been a heel since her days in NXT.
Essentially, Ripley is highly likely to emerge victorious and is currently the front-runner. While this choice may not come as a complete surprise, fans wouldn’t complain about it. However, if you’re aiming for something unexpected within the division, it might be wise to let Belair turn heel by forgoing that win, which could potentially yield better results in the long run.
