Meghan Markle’s postpartum journey wasn’t without its challenges.
The Duchess of Sussex, who is the mother of Prince Archie (age 5) and Princess Lilibet (age 3), along with Prince Harry, has disclosed that following the birth of one of her children (without specifying which child), she experienced a challenging health issue.
During the debut of Whitney Wolfe Herd’s new podcast, “Confessions of a Female Founder”, Meghan and Whitney, in their chat, shared mutual concerns about postpartum issues.
Meghan clarified, “We underwent remarkably comparable postpartum situations, although we hadn’t crossed paths during that period. We both suffered from a condition called preeclampsia post delivery.
The Cleveland Clinic states that this health issue may arise within a maximum of six weeks post-delivery, and it could potentially result in elevated blood pressure as well as other complications. If ignored, the consequences could escalate to brain damage, strokes, or even fatalities.
Meghan remarked, “It’s so infrequent and unsettling, yet you’re managing to keep everything afloat amidst it all. Meanwhile, the world is unaware of the silent struggles you’re facing. Despite the silence, you’re making an effort to be there for others. More importantly, you’re doing your best to be present for your children. These are significant health concerns that we’re dealing with.
As Whitney added, “I mean life or death, truly.”
Meghan and Whitney talked about balancing parenthood with their respective careers, focusing on the unique challenges that arise in a post-pandemic setting when many parents are working remotely.
Lili continues to take naps, as she is picked up early from preschool and sleeps instead. Since her day at preschool is only half, if she wakes up and wishes to see me, she knows how to find me, even when my office door is closed. Often, she can be found sitting on my lap during meetings with executives. (43-year-old explained)
For Meghan, finding this balance in her life is not something she’d want to change. She expressed it as “I wouldn’t trade this mix for anything else.
She mentioned that she wants to make sure she’s present for those special instances, and she doesn’t want to pass up any chances of being there unless necessary, be it pickups or drop-offs.
The April 8 episode marks the first for Meghan’s new podcast, which she announced in March.
She expressed on Instagram that she’s been engaging in honest discussions with remarkable women who transformed dreams into tangible achievements and grew small concepts into highly successful ventures. They’re disclosing advice, techniques (and setbacks), and giving her the opportunity to delve deeper into their minds as she develops her own business. As always.
In relation to the project, it’s clear that it will primarily center around motherhood as Meghan engages with female entrepreneurs. This experience has been incredibly enlightening, motivating…and enjoyable! (After all, why do something without making it a delightful journey?)

He said to Sky News in 2015 that he doesn’t believe you can rush these things; they will occur when they are supposed to. When asked if the birth of his niece Princess Charlotte made him consider settling down, he responded that he would love to have children immediately, but there is a procedure one must follow.
In the past, Meghan had a premonition for her future child and made a special purchase. She said, “I have always admired the Cartier French Tank watch. When I learned that Suits was renewed for our third season—a significant moment then—I couldn’t resist treating myself to the two-toned version.” She added this to her memory, “To M.M. From M.M.”, and she intends to pass it on to her daughter someday.
The topic of fatherhood, much like marriage, has been a recurring theme for Prince Charles and the late Princess Diana’s younger son. In an interview with People magazine in May 2016 (shortly before he met his current partner), he expressed ambivalence, saying, “There have been times when I think, ‘I really want children now,’ especially during our foreign tours. But there are also moments when I think, ‘Maybe not right now.’ There’s no hurry. At times, I’ve even hesitated due to certain circumstances.
2017 saw the Duke and Duchess of Sussex announce their engagement and grant their first joint interview together. As expected, the subject of potential children was brought up. “Absolutely,” Prince Harry responded back then, adding that they prefer to take things one step at a time, hoping to start a family soon. Meghan stood by his side with a smile.
Meghan expressed that it was like magic for her to become a mother after Archie’s birth. She found it incredibly wonderful, and with the two greatest men in her life, she is truly content.
After Archie was born in May 2019, Harry expressed his joy by saying, “This experience has been more wonderful than I could ever have imagined. The strength and endurance of women never ceases to amaze me, but both of us are incredibly happy and extremely grateful for the love and support we’ve received from everyone. It’s all been truly amazing, so we wanted to share our happiness with everyone.
At the 2019 National Youth Mentoring Summit, Harry pondered over the valuable lessons he’s gained since becoming a parent. During his speech, he pointed out, “Today, I find myself struck by several things, primarily the impact of the unseen role model. You may not be aware that someone admires you here today, and for them, your actions inspire kindness, goodness, greatness, success, and making an impact.” He added, “As a father, my newfound awareness tells me that my son is constantly watching me, learning from my behavior, and perhaps one day choosing to walk in my footsteps.
Our top priority is our little one, but after that, our work becomes the focus, and we’re simply doing all we can to contribute to improving the world,” Prince Harry said during a speaking event in 2020, expressing his commitment to making a positive impact.
Harry and Meghan discovered a bright side during the coronavirus pandemic by spending quality time with their baby Archie. In Meghan’s own words, shared in October 2020, “We are fortunate to have this time to witness him grow, as we would otherwise be traveling and working more, leaving us to miss many of those precious moments.” She added, “So I think it’s been a lot of really valuable family time.
Harry commented, “We witnessed all of Archie’s significant milestones, like his first steps, his initial run, his initial stumble, and many more.
In May 2021, Meghan graced a seldom-seen TV spot during Global Citizen’s VAX Live: The Concert to Reunite the World. During this event, the ex-actress revealed her pregnancy and expressed her eagerness about nurturing a daughter. She stated, “My partner and I are overjoyed to soon be embracing a daughter. We feel this happiness shared by countless other families worldwide.” Reflecting on their child, she emphasized, “As we imagine our little one, we envision all the young women and girls globally who deserve opportunities and encouragement to guide us into the future.
She stated, “Our choices and actions today will shape their future leadership and, by extension, establish a foundation for a prosperous, fair, and empathetic tomorrow, not just for them but for everyone as well.
In a brief guest role, Meghan appears alongside Oprah in the Apple TV+ series titled “The Me You Can’t See“. During this episode, the Californian native subtly honors her expanding family by wearing a shirt that displays the phrase, “Nurturing Tomorrow.
On June 4th, their little girl, Lili, was born to the couple. In a post on their Archewell Foundation page, they excitedly announced, “Our hearts are overflowing as we introduce you to our precious daughter! Lili has exceeded all our expectations, and we continue to feel blessed by the love and blessings we’ve received from around the world. Thank you for your ongoing compassion and support during this joyous period in our family life.
On June 8th, 2021, I’ll be unveiling my very first children’s book titled “The Bench“. This heartfelt narrative offers a unique perspective on fatherhood as seen through the eyes of a loving mother. In a statement released in May, I shared that this project was born out of a poem I penned for my spouse on Father’s Day, shortly after our little one, Archie, came into our lives. That poem evolved into this beautiful story.
Back in October 2021, I penned a heartfelt missive to esteemed Representative Nancy Pelosi and Senator Chuck Schumer, expressing my ardent backing for enacting mandatory paid parental leave in our beloved nation. The joy I felt upon the birth of my little one was boundless, yet the pandemic’s grip on hospitals, schools, and everyday life left me feeling both elated and overwhelmed.
Unlike many parents, we were fortunate enough not to face the difficult decision of either staying with our newborn during the crucial early months or returning to work. We had the option to bring our baby home, and during that vital (and significant) period, we could dedicate all our time and resources to our children and family. This choice allowed us to avoid the daily dilemmas of balancing childcare, work, and medical needs that so many families must confront.
Meghan added, “Nobody’s family should find themselves in situations where they must make such choices. No family ought to have to weigh their income against their ability to care for a family member, whether it’s a child, loved one, or themselves – as a well-rounded paid leave policy would illustrate.
In April 2022, on TODAY, Harry expressed that combining his work-at-home schedule with parenting responsibilities was practically impossible.
Archie frequently disrupts our Zoom meetings longer than anyone else does,” he pointed out. “And it happens quite frequently too, which is an interesting occurrence.
Harry observed that his son was starting to exhibit a similar wit as himself. “I strive to preserve that trait,” he said. “I believe it’s the playfulness that gives life its spark.
Meghan admitted she was concerned for her—and everybody else’s—kids in the age of social media.
She remarked at the Archewell Foundation Parents’ Summit on World Mental Health Day in October 2023, “Being a mother holds the greatest significance in my life, second only to being Harry’s wife,” she added, pointing to him.
She continued, “I should mention that I consider ourselves lucky since our kids are still quite young, but the constant changes make me anxious about what lies ahead for us.
As a parent, Meghan emphasized that while days may seem endless, years pass swiftly. In this context, she conveyed her concern about everyone being influenced by the digital realm and social media, expressing a shared desire for safety in these spaces.
During a visit to Lightway Academy in Abuja, Nigeria in May 2024, Meghan explained to a group of kindergarteners that our daughter Lili is very small compared to all of you. She’s almost three years old now, and just a few weeks ago, she looked at me and said, ‘Mama, I can see myself in your eyes.’
In response, Meghan stated, “She spoke quite literally at the moment.” However, her words resonated with me in an entirely unique manner. It struck me, “Indeed, I recognize a part of myself in you, and vice versa.
