Historically, EA Sports encounters difficulties in ensuring that the newest editions of their sports games for the Nintendo Switch are fully-featured. However, Eurogamer reports that the company is planning to release more comprehensive versions of their sports games on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, as opposed to the slimmed-down variations that primarily offer updated player rosters.
“EA is thrilled to announce that two of their top-tier franchises – EA Sports FC and Madden NFL – will be making an appearance on Nintendo’s Switch 2. This means fans can indulge in the sports they adore, anytime and anywhere. Both versions are tailored exclusively for the new handheld console, capturing the essence of our franchises across platforms. Stay tuned for more details soon!”
It’s important to mention that EA has been cautious in its statements about the features for the Switch 2 versions of EA Sports FC and Madden NFL, refraining from guaranteeing they will match those on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. Instead, the company has stated that it aims to equip the Switch 2 editions with as many features as the hardware is capable of supporting.
In their announcement, the company mentioned that they’ll reveal more specifics about the Madden NFL and FC games on Nintendo Switch 2 at a future time. However, their aim has consistently been to provide a uniform gaming experience for players across different platforms, as long as the hardware permits.
When inquired about whether the upcoming versions of their titles for Switch 2 would include cross-platform multiplayer with other consoles, EA remained vague about the matter. However, they did hint that their sports games designed for the Switch 2 will be tailored specifically to suit the console.
“The company is thrilled to announce that two of its cherished series, EA SPORTS FC and Madden NFL, will be coming to Nintendo’s upcoming handheld device, Switch 2. This move offers a fantastic chance to connect with an even larger audience, particularly younger gamers, by delivering their favorite sports on this platform.”
As a devoted fan, I’ve noticed that titles like EA Sports FC haven’t typically shone in terms of features on Nintendo Switch. However, the excitement is palpable with the announcement that EA Sports FC 24 will incorporate the Ultimate Team mode. Interestingly, EA has labeled the Switch releases of its sports games as “Legacy” versions, suggesting a certain nostalgia or a scaled-down experience compared to the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions, which boast more features under the FIFA banner in the past.
It seems that Electronic Arts (EA) may be aiming to expand their player base for their sports games, given that a report from early this year suggested that the poor performance of EA Sports FC 25 could have played a significant role in a substantial drop in the company’s market value.
To put it simply, FIFA 23 didn’t see as many enhancements as its predecessor in areas such as refined animation systems and additions like FUT Moments and overhauled chemistry systems were absent.
