Meghan Markle Breaks Silence on Tabloid Drama: You Won’t Believe Her Response!

Meghan Markle has endured a lot of harmful criticism over the years.

Indeed, the Duchess of Sussex subtly reminisced about the criticism she and Prince Harry endured from the British press a few years back, which includes their children Archie Harrison (age 5) and Lilibet “Lili” Dianna (age 3). She also revealed the guiding principle that helped her persevere during that challenging time.

Regardless of the level you’re operating at, there will inevitably come a time when you’ll experience a setback, as Meghan, 43, explained to guest Whitney Wolfe Herd on her April 8th episode of the “Confessions of a Female Founder” podcast. You’ll need to decide whether to shrink back, overcome, or rise above it at that moment.

The founder of As Ever, without providing additional information about that specific incident, wasn’t alone in noticing the U.K.’s extensive media focus on the royal couple. Whitney reminisced about her journey to Ireland a few years back, where she strolled through the airport and noticed Meghan’s image gracing “every single” magazine cover at the newsstand.

She found it remarkable that such extensive coverage was given, considering Meghan and Harry had largely settled in California, intending to stay there with few plans to return to the U.K. (A year after their 2020 relocation, Meghan successfully sued Associated Newspapers for publishing a private letter she wrote to her father, Thomas Markle, in their The Mail on Sunday outlet.)

The Bumble founder reminisced about a surprising moment: ‘Wow, I’m in Ireland and she’s back home in California with her children doing school drop-offs, yet she’s on the front page of every newspaper here? That’s amazing!’ He continued, ‘But I was puzzled. What are they writing about? There seems to be no content or anything worth saying.’

Later on, Whitney extended a sympathetic hand to Meghan, labeling her persistently contentious online scrutiny as “unfair” and “harsh.

In my perspective, observing how you’ve been portrayed in the media, a level I can hardly fathom, stirs deep empathy within me. My heart genuinely aches for you.

Meghan Markle, who is well-known for her love of preserves, shared that her interest in making them grew after she and Prince Harry settled into their residence in Montecito, California. She mentioned this while plucking berries during the second episode of “With Love, Meghan”. She explained, “These vines were here when we moved in, which sparked my passion for jam and preserve-making.” As for her preferred preserve, that remains to be revealed.

Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, shared that she enjoys making preserves like apple butter because it reminds her of something sentimental from her childhood. She added that her children, Archie and Lilibet, now have the chance to connect this tradition with coming home from school and enjoying the sweet aroma of slow-cooked fruit. Interestingly, Lili has even tried her hand at making preserves, and she and Meghan made a batch of strawberry preserve together in episode five.

In the fifth episode, Megan casually mentioned that Harry, fondly known as H, isn’t just an actor but also a skilled chef who whips up fantastic breakfasts. She even gave a sneak peek into how Prince Harry prefers his dishes seasoned – he adds salt to every meal before tasting it. In the second episode, Megan shared that she adjusts her own seasoning habits because of this, trying not to over-salt due to Harry’s preference for a salty kick!

Meghan expressed her fondness for a style known as “high-low,” where she combines high-end with more affordable clothing items. For instance, while hosting Mindy Kaling for a tea party in episode two, she donned Zara pants, a Loro Piana top, and a sweater by Jenni Kayne.

The series highlights Meghan’s passion for hosting, cooking, gardening, and decorating, but it also uncovers some lesser-known aspects of her interests. For example, in one episode, she organizes a game night with her friends where they learn to play mahjong together. As she mentioned, “We’ve all picked up mahjong in the past few months. Mahjong originated in China during the 1800s, and we play an American version of it. What I’ve come to appreciate about mahjong is that it serves as a means of learning something new alongside your friends and watching friendships blossom with the game acting as the backdrop.”

In another episode, Vicky Tsai, the founder of Tatcha, disclosed Meghan’s fondness for pickleball. Moreover, Meghan herself shared some of her preferred music genres.

In the fifth episode, Meghan shared that she enjoys a vast array of music, including ’70s soft rock, yacht rock, soul, and some unique French tunes reminiscent of dinner parties. When it comes to food, her spice tolerance is extremely high.

Growing up, we may not have had much, but we sure did explore various parts of the world,” she shared. “My mother was a travel agent, which allowed us to sample an array of cuisines and cultures. One dish that has always stood out for me is gumbo – a Soul food specialty known for its rich flavors and spicy kick. It’s something I can’t get enough of, and it’s the level of heat that draws me in. As I share my love for this cuisine with my family, I find myself constantly seeking out dishes with similar flavors.

In episode two, Meghan reminisced about her childhood, saying, “It seems like a completely different era now, but back then, it was completely normal for me to consume a lot of fast food and TV tray dinners – you know, those microwavable kids’ meals that came with compartments… I used to spend my time watching Jeopardy! and consuming lots of fast food.” When asked about her favorites at the time, she responded, “I was a big fan of Pollo Loco and Taco Bell, especially their Mexican pizzas drenched in extra hot sauce. And let’s not forget Jack in the Box, because my mom adored their tacos.

Yet, those weren’t the only recollections she reminisced about from her youthful days. Moreover, Meghan talked about her experiences within the Girl Scouts as well.

She mentioned in the fourth episode that she had been a Girl Scout for quite some time. It all began when she was around five or six years old as a Daisy, and she sold numerous boxes of cookies. Her mother served as the troop leader for Troop 949.

Following their withdrawal from active royal duties in 2020, Harry and Meghan retained their titles as Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

In her book With Love, Meghan, she elaborated on why the Sussex title holds such significance for her.

“It’s amusing that you persistently refer to me as Meghan Markle,” Meghan said to Mindy in episode two. “You see, I’m Sussex now. As a parent, you say, ‘No, I share my name with my children.’ I didn’t realize how profoundly it would resonate with me, but it signifies so much to be able to say, ‘This is our family name. Our little Sussex family.’

When discussing Archie and Lili, Meghan provided some intriguing glimpses into their lives through the series.

She revealed that her children, much like herself, have a fondness for gardening, even having their own tools, as they approach it with diligence. She also shared her daughter’s affection for the color pink and her clean-up song. In episode five, she humorously explained, “Clean as you go. Lili has made a song out of it,” repeating, “‘Clean as you go. Clean, clean, clean, clean, clean as you go.'”

Moreover, Meghan spoke about creating sun tea with Archie, an experience that was later followed by his fishing trip where he caught a trout. She also expressed her joy in cooking with her children, stating, “It’s so much a part of what I want them to learn and have these wonderful formative memories of being there with me,” adding, “‘Oh mama used to make this.'” in episode five.

Before she became famous as an actress and duchess, Meghan Markle had her initial job at an ice cream parlor named Humphrey Yogart. Later on, she assisted with making doughnuts at a small shop called Lil Orbits Donuts, and during college, she worked as a cocktail waitress in Chicago. Additionally, she shared that she taught gift-wrapping classes when she first began her acting career.

As a lifestyle connoisseur, let me share a personal reflection from episode four, where I had the pleasure of hosting an event with Nacho Figueras’ remarkable wife, Delfina Blaquier. Reflecting on my brief stint in Argentina, I can’t help but be drawn to its charm that mirrors California in many aspects. The majestic mountains and the infectious zest for life, not to mention the delight of being outdoors, all resonated deeply with me. Despite my short stay, interning at the U.S. embassy, I fell in love with Argentina, cherishing every moment spent there.

From 2011 to 2018, Meghan starred as Rachel Zane on the TV series Suits, a role that she will always remember when she learned she’d be relocating to Toronto for it.

On episode two, I exclaim, ‘It’s picked up here! Toronto? Alright, what does that entail?’ My enthusiasm bubbling over. A single season in Toronto? Incredible! Two seasons? Now I find myself contemplating if my life is about to unfold in this new location. Fortunately, I have a soft spot for Canada and have always endeavored to extend invitations to the cast or make friends with fellow dog owners at the park.”

And regarding your costar Abigail Spencer, she graces an episode of With Love, Meghan.

Back in January, I shared the heartbreaking news about my cherished beagle, Guy, who left us. Throughout our Netflix series, he was a beloved character and I’ve often spoken about his special place in my life.

In episode four, I expressed that “I would do anything for Guy, and he knows it.” He had the unique ability to adapt to any situation – my sweet guy, my silly guy, my saucy little guy, always spoiled.

He was an unwavering companion by my side through thick and thin. As I said in episode five, “Guy’s just always there. He’s my shadow, and he’s been with me for a very long time.” From Toronto to the U.K., Canada, and California, Guy has journeyed alongside me, collecting stories along the way.

After our final episode, I dedicated it to the memory of my dear friend, Guy.
