Twins at 48: Hilary Swank’s Surprising Secret to Happy Parenting

Hilary Swank is raising two million dollar babies. 

Two years following the birth of her twins Aya and Ohm, when she was 48, Yellowjackets actress chose to share her unique experience of motherhood in later life. She also disclosed the reasons why deciding to conceive at 47 proved to be the ideal choice for her and her husband Philip Schneider.

Hilary, aged 50, shared with Women’s Health in an interview published on April 8 that she would have had children earlier. She didn’t necessarily delay intentionally until the age of 47, but it was a significant period in her life when everything came together perfectly. It was the ideal time for numerous reasons, she added.

Indeed, the two-time Oscar winner had decided to freeze her eggs a decade prior when she was 37.  

She mentioned that it was fortunate she could preserve her eggs for future use, alleviating some of the stress.

In her own words, having this choice meant less constraints regarding timing for her. Moreover, understanding that not all eggs might be viable, this option still provided her with a sense of security and flexibility.

Now that she’s a mother, she realizes how much her parenting style has changed compared to what she thought it might be if she had children earlier.

Hilary stated, ‘I’d be a far different parent compared to who I’d have been in my early 40s. I’m incredibly patient now, and much more understanding. Moreover, I seem to have a distinct interest that differs from what it would have been.’

She expressed her deep curiosity about understanding their minds and what drives them. Despite having an established career, she finds herself fully immersed and present in their lives, taking on an active role as a hands-on parent.

Since becoming a mother in April 2023, the star of “Boys Don’t Cry” has openly shared her experiences with motherhood. This includes finding her way through breastfeeding twin infants.

Hillarily mentioned to People in October that she had never experienced being a single mother, and as such, she has only cared for two children. However, attempting to nurse both of them simultaneously proved to be an insurmountable challenge for her.

For her, breastfeeding was important to her—and she expressed her gratitude to be able to do it.

Hilary expressed her profound gratitude as she managed to nurse her child, something not guaranteed for everyone. She and her partner had been unsure if it would even be an option for them.

For the past six years, both she and her spouse, who divide their time between Washington and Colorado, share the role of parenting. They’ve always stood by each other as they face the challenges and joys of parenthood together.

Hilary mentioned that my spouse and I are actively involved and share the responsibilities of parenting equally. She expressed her gratitude for this arrangement.

Hillarry shares a progress update about her pregnancy with her followers, titling her February 2023 post, “The oven is getting warmer, the dough is starting to expand!

In the ultrasound, it was revealed that the actress from “Million Dollar Baby” possesses a boxer within herself, as “Baby A” was seen showing off her muscles during the scan.

Hilary officially welcomed her twins in April 2023.

She wrote, “It wasn’t a walk in the park, but oh, the joy it brought – and I couldn’t be happier to share it!” For Easter, I’m posting this update straight from paradise. Happy Easter!

Hilary gave a peek into her and Philip’s life at home with their many fur babies. 

In her June 2023 post, she wrote: “I walked into my bedroom to discover a delightful display of treats for rescue dogs…”, naming them Terrific Teddy, Super Sufi, Kinetic Kai, Dashing Dunton, and Mama Moon.

In February 2024, Hillary and Philip had an uncommon adult outing during the Variety Spirituality and Faith in Entertainment Breakfast, a time free from their children’s company.

After disclosing the names Aya and Ohm, Hilary shared that her daughter is named after “a Syrian refugee we encountered in Lebanon; she embodied great courage, bravery, and radiated light amidst challenging circumstances.

Regarding Son Ohm, his nickname signifies “the first universal sound that connects everyone.” It seemed quite appropriate to us.
