More recently, a confidential Microsoft file was accidentally disclosed, revealing that essential workers at the company are given official forms to apply for retention incentives. Notably, these applications contain a designated section that emphasizes the individual’s accomplishments in advancing Microsoft’s artificial intelligence projects.
Shortly after discovering that Microsoft’s AI team members receive more generous remuneration than those in other areas such as Azure, this detail became known.
It’s evident now that Microsoft isn’t the sole business emphasizing AI in their operations; Shopify is part of that group as well.
Shopify offers a digital marketplace where businesses can set up and run their own online shops using provided features for listing products, handling transactions, and managing sales.
Recently, Shopify’s CEO, Tobias Lütke, communicated to the team that it’s now essential for everyone to incorporate AI thoughtfully into their work, as a standard practice within the company.
Initially intended as confidential, the details unexpectedly leaked out on various social media sites, forcing the executive to make the memo public. (Source: Tom’s Hardware)

The memo pointed out an intriguing rule: Before requesting extra help by hiring more personnel, staff should demonstrate that the task cannot be automated with artificial intelligence.
Before requesting additional team members and resources, it’s essential to show the reasons why tasks can’t be accomplished with the help of Artificial Intelligence.
CEO Tobias Lütke emphasized that integrating AI into work processes is an essential requirement for staff members. Moreover, he asserted that AI has demonstrated its ability to significantly boost productivity in companies that have adopted it.
According to Lütke:
Numerous individuals have taken on seemingly impossible tasks, tasks we wouldn’t have considered initially, by instinctively and ingeniously utilizing artificial intelligence to complete them tenfold more efficiently.
As an analyst, I find it apparent that embedding AI into our daily operations at Shopify is not a casual suggestion but a formal expectation, extending to all levels of our workforce, including the executive team. The CEO has emphasized that the effective implementation and utilization of AI will be a significant factor in our performance evaluations.
It’s worth noting that Shopify isn’t alone in adopting AI; last year, Klarna – a Swedish financial technology firm – also jumped on the bandwagon. They expressed their intention to utilize AI to streamline tasks and make them more efficient with a smaller workforce.
The company isn’t terminating jobs to bring in artificial intelligence; rather, they won’t hire replacements for departing staff members, leaving any open positions unfilled.
