Sony recently rolled out an update for the PlayStation Portal, enhancing its Cloud Streaming Beta feature and boosting overall user experience. The upgrade aims to refine the Cloud Streaming Beta technology and provide a smoother experience all around.
One of the exciting new additions is that players can now arrange their games in their Cloud Streaming library according to their preference, using options like “Recently Added to PS Plus”, “Release Date”, or alphabetical order. Additionally, this update enables PlayStation Portal users to record gameplay during a Cloud Streaming session.
Similar to how the PS5’s Share button functions, the gameplay capture options on the PlayStation Portal work in a similar way. By pressing it once, you open the creation menu. If you press and hold, it takes a screenshot, while pressing it twice starts or stops recording a video clip. Any snapshots or videos captured will be automatically uploaded to a cloud server, accessible through the PlayStation App. These captures are stored for 14 days.
Should the PlayStation’s cloud streaming servers become congested, the PlayStation Portal now enables users to add their names to a queue. This feature provides an approximation of the waiting period, and once a spot opens up, the queue will automatically launch the game for you.
Users of Cloud Streaming now have the option to pause their game during play. To do this, simply open the PlayStation Portal quick menu by pressing the PlayStation button. Alternatively, a game can be paused by putting the PlayStation Portal into rest mode. Please note that if the PS Portal is in rest mode for more than 15 seconds with a game suspended, the streaming session will disconnect. To make managing time easier during Cloud Streaming, players will receive a notification if they’ve been inactive long enough that the game session may end automatically. The PlayStation Portal will also display this warning.
Eventually, a fresh feedback interface has been created for users of the PS Portal who are part of the Cloud Streaming beta trial, allowing them to share their thoughts directly with Sony.
Sony Interactive Entertainment’s VP of Product Management, Shuzo Kikuchi, expressed gratitude for the input and backing from our players as we keep introducing new features to improve the PS Portal. One such addition, support for certain public Wi-Fi networks, was introduced last year. We are excited for you to try out the latest beta features. Your feedback plays a crucial role in shaping the future of streaming games, and we eagerly await your thoughts on these updates!
Rift Apart”, and “Ghost of Tsushima” are among the games included in this beta.
As a gamer, I’m thrilled that this device can stream my favorite games in stunning 1080p resolution at an impressive 60 frames per second! Plus, it doesn’t compromise on the immersive experience, as it supports all the DualSense features of the PlayStation Portal even while streaming.
