Despite Bungie’s revival of Marathon being enveloped in a good deal of secrecy, the studio plans to disclose additional details about the game later on this week. For now, there’s been a buzz suggesting that Marathon might be released sometime in 2021.
As per reports by Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson, it appears that Bungie is aiming for a 2025 launch of Marathon. If this is accurate, we can expect them to unveil the exact release date along with the gameplay preview scheduled for April 12.
On social media platform X, Henderson playfully teases that his wife has enrolled him in a gym membership after he mentions planning to work hard for a marathon later in the year. When one of his followers queries if “Marathon” will be released this year based on his response, Henderson confirms with a simple “Yes.
Henderson posted that he mentioned to his wife he’d be busy with a marathon later this year, but guess what? She unexpectedly enrolled him at the gym instead!
As an excited fan, I’m thrilled to share that Bungie unveiled the gameplay teaser for Marathon! Although the trailer didn’t disclose much about the game, it offered tantalizing glimpses of its stunning environments and sound design. What intrigued me most is the hint that this new installment might continue the narrative threads first established by Bungie in their original 1990s Marathon trilogy.
A few months back, I heard some buzz about my favorite game, Marathon, being set to make a big appearance soon. In February, it turned out that Giant Bomb’s Jeff Grubb mentioned that the reason Marathon wasn’t featured in Sony’s State of Play was because Bungie was preparing its own event for the game instead. Now, I can’t wait to see what they have in store!
According to Grubb, Bungie typically handles their own projects for Destiny, and they plan to continue this approach this year as well, which he believes will involve updates around April. This could potentially include news about “Marathon,” a separate event distinct from a State of Play.
Meanwhile, Bungie has been consistently making changes to the Steam database records related to Marathon. Notably, they recently added some new “app types” to the Steam listing for Marathon, suggesting that they are moving closer to the game’s release. This could mean they are preparing to debut the game along with some additional content like DLC or expansion packs.
As a gamer, I’m excited to share that Bungie has been expanding the playtests for the upcoming game, Marathon. In fact, back in October, Director Joe Ziegler expressed his desire to include more gamers like us in these playtests so that the studio could gather more feedback on how the game is taking shape.
As per Ziegler’s statement, the studio plans to broaden the scope of playtests progressively. The aim is to incorporate a substantial number of players into each developmental stage ahead, and these major phases could present chances for everyone to get involved with us.
I told my wife that I plan to run a marathon later this year, and surprise, surprise, she’s enrolled me at the gym instead! 😂😂😂
