7 notable personalities embark on an extraordinary spiritual voyage as they join the BBC Two’s Pilgrimage series, with the upcoming season set to premiere shortly.
Journey Across the Alps: Airing on BBC Two and iPlayer this Sunday, 20th April, at 9 pm. Subsequent episodes will follow on the 21st and 22nd of April, both airing at 9 pm as well.
The participants for the seventh season, which included Jay McGuiness, Helen Lederer, Harry Clark, Daliso Chaponda, Jeff Brazier, Stef Reid, and Nelufar Hedayat, were unveiled in March. Each of them was revealed to be embarking on a very personal journey during this season.
For twelve days, famous individuals will embark on an expedition through the Alps, following a reinstated historical Catholic path.
In the span of 12 days, prominent personalities are set to traverse the Alps, adhering to an old medieval Catholic trail that has been revived.
During their trip, they’ll set off slightly beyond Innsbruck, Austria, and conclude close to Lake Zurich in Switzerland along the Austrian Camino path.

Over the course of 12 days, they will encounter challenging ascents as they venture high into the Alps and approach the snow line. Following an ancient route, they will traverse the Arlberg pass, the highest point on their journey along the Camino, before reaching their final destination in the foothills of the Swiss Alps, at Einsiedeln Abbey.
The abbey has been alluring over a millennium since followers of the revered hermit St Meinrad took inspiration from it. Today, it welcomes nearly a million pilgrims and visitors annually, captivated by its revered Black Madonna, distinct history, and the Benedictine monks who dwell and worship within its walls.
Equipped with their own backpacks, the travelers plan to lodge in local lodgings, including convents and pilgrim accommodations, where they may share rooms.
Lederer found the idea of participating appealing because a pilgrimage seems to involve hardship, struggle, discomfort, worry, and obstacles. Given its scarcity, he saw it as a unique chance that may not come his way again.
I hold the conviction that there’s a supreme being I believe in, but I’m still unsure about its specific nature. Both my parents were raised in different religious backgrounds: my father belonged to a Jewish family, while my mother hailed from the Isle of Wight and was reportedly christened. However, neither my Czechoslovakian grandparents nor my mother openly discussed their faith.
Having a blend of cultures implies that one values and respects both, and as I grow older, I’m discovering a unique quality – you can never escape your past. With my multicultural background, with the suffering of my family that isn’t entirely mine, but theirs, I aspire to transform it into something that brings me a sense of tranquility.

Brazier expressed: “The most fitting way to express my faith is as spiritual. In essence, I perceive the universe as my guide, as it consistently provides me with what I need, at precisely the right moments. To directly address the question – who or what is God – poses a significant challenge, but for now, I would say that God embodies love; hence, God resides within each one of us.
Apart from acquiring knowledge, I anticipate that our journey could potentially reshape my perspectives and beliefs. This pilgrimage offers an exceptional chance for me to delve into subjects and dialogues that I seldom encounter.
