The Conflict, a gripping new drama filled with suspense, is moving towards number 5. It promises to explore themes of obsession, anxiety, and dread.
In a six-episode show, Jill Halfpenny and Rupert Penry-Jones portray Emma and John Barnett, a seemingly blissful couple. Their lives appear to be picture-perfect.
That is, until they decide to add a kitchen extension to their house. Sounds harmless, right?
When objections arise, it can unearth surprising skeletons and potentially lethal secrets.
Or, when objections are brought up, hidden skeletons and secrets that could be harmful may come to light.
Both sentences convey the idea that obstacles can reveal previously unknown or concealed information that might pose a risk.
In the special video segment, a sense of escalating emotions occurs when Emma discloses to neighbor Barbara (played by Tessa Peake-Jones) about her intentions for building an addition.
In my humble opinion as a moviegoer, I’d say that the film subtly emphasizes the universal desire for more room, a sentiment I personally relate to. As time passes, our living spaces need to adapt, and with an elder family member like Beth and teenagers in the mix, it becomes especially challenging.

Although it appears harmless at first glance, it seems to strike a sensitive chord with Barbara, prompting her to question whether Emma might have shared this information with Derek (James Fleet).
After Barbara leaves, Emma confides in Sonia (Amy Nuttall) saying, “I didn’t intend to bring up Marcus; I was merely attempting to…” before expressing frustration.
Afterward, they talk about Marcus, and Sonia remarks, “Let’s be realistic, people don’t vanish without a trace. You admitted that you could hear the arguments from your side of the wall, right?
To learn about this enigmatic character named Marcus, you’ll need to tune into the series. For a sneak peek of the rising tension, feel free to replay the video clip above.
