Natasha Rothwell expressed regret as one scene was omitted from the final episode of The White Lotus season 3.
At the closing moment of the episode, Belinda and her son Zion (Nicholas Duvernay), having accepted Greg’s bribe money and amassed a fortune, departed Thailand. In doing so, they left behind Pornchai (Dom Hetrakul), their romantic interest and possible business partner, as they moved on.
She mentioned, “[It] was one of the rare instances where I wasn’t shedding tears,” she said. “I found myself crying nearly every time we filmed due to the emotional resonance of seeing [Pornchai] wave goodbye on the beach, and it felt so reminiscent of the raw feelings when you bid farewell to someone in reality, but without the cinematic flair.
As he faded into the horizon, it felt as though he was leaving for good, stirring deep emotions within me. Yet, clutching my son’s hand, I found the resolve to say, ‘Yes, this is the right choice.’
Instead, she delved into an incident that didn’t end up in the final broadcast but, in her opinion, effectively encapsulated her experiences during the entire season.
She shared that a single line in the series, which turned out to be its final one, left her feeling quite melancholic. Specifically, it was Belinda whispering to herself, “There is a God,” a sentiment that resonated deeply as it reflects the doubts about faith that have been prevalent throughout this season, hinting at where Belinda’s thoughts lie.
Simultaneously, Belinda expressed more about the conflict she felt regarding her decision to depart from Thailand, Rothwell added: “It’s not solely Pornchai who she’s thankful towards, but also her son who bravely fought for her, as she couldn’t or didn’t wish to. At the same time, she’s releasing something that was genuinely beneficial for her.
It was incredibly moving to film those scenes, as I had to grapple with the impact of the decision and watch as though someone was slipping away before my eyes. This visual experience provided me with plenty of material to draw upon.
