There’s been a surge of interest in exploring the life events of Darth Vader between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, and it seems that creators and fans alike are eager for more. A new novel titled Star Wars: Master of Evil has been announced, ahead of Star Wars Celebration Japan, with further details to be revealed at the event’s publishing panel. This book is penned by author Adam Christopher, whose 2022 novel Shadow of the Sith made it to the top of the New York Times bestsellers list. The plot is said to delve into “Vader’s relentless quest for power over death.” Pre-orders are already being taken, and the book is set to hit shelves on November 11th, 2025.
Title “Master of Evil” showcases an arresting cover art by Simon Goinard, illustrating a shattered and distorted Darth Vader helmet with a solitary, weary eye peering out from it. The narrative unfolds just prior to the incidents of “Star Wars: Episode IV — A New Hope“, when it’s well-established that Vader was in a tumultuous and treacherous mental state. Furthermore, this tale appears to explore the past motivations for his alliance with the Sith, specifically his determination to defy death for those dear to him.
It’s puzzling why Vader would restart his quest for this power, as it appears he thinks his unborn children perished with Padme, and so far as we can tell, he isn’t aware of Luke or Leia. Since there seems to be no one left he loves, maybe he’s searching for a means of self-preservation – possibly eternal life.
This announcement highlights two additional sources where Darth Vader’s actions during this period were examined – comic books and the animated series “Star Wars: Rebels.” Lately, viewers witnessed Vader face his former master in the live-action series “Obi-Wan Kenobi,” but it remains uncertain whether that narrative will factor into the current storyline. With so much Star Wars content available, no fan could possibly memorize it all. However, since Disney separated the Legends timeline, there’s a lot of debate among fans about what qualifies as canonical.
In his Star Wars-related career, Christopher has created various books and comics; however, his work that has received the most acclaim is “Shadow of the Sith.” This novel is set between “Return of the Jedi” and “The Force Awakens,” and it chronicles the adventures of Luke Skywalker and Lando Calrissian as they embark on a quest to track down a Sith assassin who they believe has abducted Lando’s daughter.
The book titled “Master of Evil” is currently accessible in print, electronic, and audio versions. You can secure a copy of it in any of these formats at this time. The publication date for the book is set for November 11th.
