On Thursdays, Bethesda Softworks and ZeniMax Online Studios unveiled their The Elder Scrolls Online 2025 Roadmap, revealing the upcoming features for this popular massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) that has amassed a player base of 26 million.
According to Matt Firor, the head of ZeniMax Online Studios, The Elder Scrolls Online is moving beyond its traditional annual chapter approach. Instead, the team is exploring the concept of Seasons, which will bring new quests, features, and enhancements to the game, focusing on improving the overall player experience.
As a tech-savvy individual, I was privileged to get an early peek at the upcoming Direct, and also had the pleasure of hearing from Rich Lambert, the creative director, and Susan Kath, the executive producer, as they fielded questions about the upcoming journeys in Tamriel.
If you missed it live, you can find The Elder Scrolls Online 2025 Direct below:
The Seasons of the Worm Cult arrives in 2025
In this fresh setup, the initial narrative emerging is “The Seasons of the Worm Cult,” a direct continuation from the original tale that came bundled with The Elder Scrolls Online upon its debut.
As I follow the enigmatic trail of the mysterious Worm Cult, my journey leads me to the sun-kissed shores of Solstice Island. Here, I find myself amidst a vibrant tapestry of Argonians and High Elves, their diverse communities making up the heartbeat of this captivating island.
During this upcoming season, we’ll introduce the Writhing Wall server event – a massive undertaking according to Lambert, being the largest event ever seen in The Elder Scrolls Online. This multi-stage event invites all players on a server to participate, eventually leading up to the assault against the mystical wall that separates the island, powered by souls.
As per Kath’s explanation, it’s possible that not every season may have the same duration, with potential seasons lasting anywhere from six to as few as three months in the future.

Another main aspect of the Direct is Subclasses, an upcoming feature that will be accessible to every player. By utilizing Subclasses, characters who reach level 50 can incorporate skills from various classes into their current character, thereby transforming their gameplay and fostering creative exploration.
Necrom expansion.
Skills used for a Subclass will also cost more points, in an attempt to keep things balanced.

Things are beginning with a prologue quest that’s free for all players and available today.
Following this, the initial segment of Seasons of the Worm Cult will debut in June, accompanied by the Writhing Wall event later in the autumn. The final segment of Seasons of the Worm Cult is planned for release towards the end of 2025.
From my perspective as an analyst, I’m left pondering about the potential long-term implications of transitioning The Elder Scrolls Online into a seasonal model. For now, it’s evident that there are exciting prospects ahead, and I eagerly anticipate engaging with the Worm Cult this coming summer.
At the moment, you can play The Elder Scrolls Online on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Windows PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and even on Mac. Notably, the base game is included in Xbox Game Pass.
