On Thursday, Xbox Game Studios, along with World’s Edge, announced the latest DLC for Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition. Entitled “The Three Kingdoms,” this expansion delves into the historical era known as the Romance of the Three Kingdoms period in ancient China.
In this latest update, The Three Kingdoms is introducing five fresh civilizations: the Shu, Wei, Wu, Jurchens, and Khitans. Additionally, you’ll find an array of new units, including the Fire Lancers, Rocket Carts, and Dragon Ships, along with distinctive faction-specific ones such as the Wei Tiger Cavalry and the Jurchens Grenadier.
Created in partnership with long-term Age of Empires collaborators at Forgotten Empires, The Three Kingdoms offers three interwoven campaigns spanning 15 missions. These campaigns focus on the stories of Liu Bei, Cao Cao, and the Sun Clan.
The expansion pack titled “Three Kingdoms” is set to debut on May 6, 2025, simultaneously for Xbox consoles and Windows PC users. Priced at $20, this release follows the pattern of previous DLCs by offering a discount for those who choose to preorder.
When is Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition coming to PlayStation 5?
Previously made known, Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition will soon be available on PlayStation 5, following the current pattern of Xbox games being adapted for other gaming systems.
On May 6, 2025, Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition will be available for PlayStation 5 users, aligning with the release of The Three Kingdoms DLC. Players who opt for the Premium Edition (which encompasses all previous DLC packages) can enjoy early access starting from May 1, 2025.
