PS5 Consoles Quietly Get New Upgrade Fans Have Been Begging For

This week, Sony discreetly implemented a long-awaited upgrade on PlayStation 5 consoles, which fans have been eagerly requesting since its launch in 2020. Ever since the PS5‘s debut, users have voiced their desires for console enhancements, and Sony has responded by gradually introducing several updates that have significantly improved the PS5’s user interface and functionality. However, themes remain a significant concern for many, as the customizable backgrounds that were popular on the PS4 haven’t been fully incorporated into the PS5. Nevertheless, Sony seems to be making an effort to provide an alternative solution.

Starting this week, Sony has added numerous fresh animated wallpapers to PS5 systems. These new themes can be found only in the “Welcome Hub” section of the PS5 interface, implying they aren’t accessible on all console screens. However, when initially launched last year, these backgrounds were well-received, and the number now available for use has grown.

For this round, Sony has selected themes for the Welcome Hub that are inspired by some of the most anticipated PS5 games from PlayStation. These games have animated themes, such as Astro Bot, Days Gone, Demon’s Souls, Ghost of Tsushima, Ghost of Yotei, Horizon Forbidden West, LEGO Horizon Adventures, Horizon: Call of the Mountain, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Rise of the Ronin, Stellar Blade, and MLB The Show 25.

Fantastic update! It appears that Sony is reintroducing customizable animated backgrounds for the PlayStation 5. Currently, they’re limited to the home screen, but we can hope that this feature will be expanded, and we’ll have a wide range of options to choose from once more.

It’s important to mention that not every new PlayStation 5 background has been released for PS5 users just yet. Similar to other updates for the PS5, this change is being distributed gradually, rolling out in different regions over time. However, rest assured that these new backgrounds will eventually become accessible to all PlayStation users, so don’t worry if they haven’t shown up on your console yet.

Looking ahead, Sony (PlayStation) has confirmed plans to introduce fresh themes for PS5, including the re-introduction of the “Anniversary” themes from PS1, PS2, PS3, and PS4. These themes were originally released in late 2024 as a way to celebrate PlayStation’s 30th anniversary. As of now, a specific release date for these themes hasn’t been announced, but the news that they are coming back is certainly exciting!
