It Ends With Us

Content warning: This story discusses domestic violence.

Brandon Sklenar explained that one difficult theme didn’t end with his last film.

The actor from “It Ends With Us,” who is 34 years old, explained how there seems to be a recurring theme of domestic violence narratives in his recent projects, such as the upcoming film “The Housemaid.” He believes there may be a reason why he has been drawn to share these heavy yet crucial stories.

For quite some time now, a certain theme has been woven into my life and experiences. A dear one of mine has been battling this issue for a significant period, and in whatever capacity I can, I’ve been offering guidance and support through this journey.

He stated, “It might be through divine providence that this topic continually surfaces within my circle, as it’s a subject that plays a significant role in my personal life.

In “It Ends With Us,” Sklenar portrayed Lily’s childhood friend and first love. He was the character played by Blake Lively, who he later aided in escaping from an abusive marriage with Justin Baldoni’s character, Ryle. Similarly, another film adaptation titled “The Housemaid” tackles the issue of domestic abuse, featuring Sydney Sweeney as Millie, a maid working for wealthy couple Nina (Amanda Seyfried) and Andrew (Sklenar).

Nevertheless, the actor from 1923 confessed that he hadn’t intentionally chosen roles with related themes one after another.

“It’s coincidental,” Sklenar added, “but it seems to keep coming about.”

In my enthusiastic fandom, I can’t help but gush about Sklenar’s latest masterpiece, “Drop.” This film resonated deeply with me as I found myself slipping into the shoes of a man who, much like myself, finds himself on a date with the captivating Meghann Fahy’s character. But here’s the twist – she’s a survivor, having bravely escaped her abusive husband. Yet, contrary to what one might expect, this poignant subplot isn’t the heart of the story. Instead, it’s woven intricately into the larger tapestry of emotions that Sklenar masterfully paints on the screen.

He noted that while we touch on the topic in the movie Drop, due to Violet’s background, it doesn’t take center stage as much as it does in It Ends with Us. In contrast, that particular film is centered around domestic violence and its narrative is entirely built upon it. The theme of domestic violence just happened to be present in this movie by coincidence.

As a devoted admirer, I can’t help but express my passion for the epic saga filled with monumental battles and tragic love stories that has been adapted from the renowned book series by George R.R Martin. Stars like Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Shailene Woodley, Zoe Kravitz, and Laura Dern took on the roles of five women who find themselves entangled in a murder mystery. As engaging as the book itself, the first season garnered eight Primetime Emmy Awards and even persuaded Meryl Streep to join for a significant role in the second season. The series titled “Palm Royale” received three Emmy nominations for 2024 in the categories of Outstanding Comedy Series, Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series (Kristen Wiig), and Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series (Carol Burnett). Interestingly, despite being adapted from the 2018 book “Mr. & Mrs. American Pie” by Juliet McDaniel, the Apple TV+ show takes a significantly different path from its original source material. The story, set in the late ’60s, revolves around Kristen Wiig’s character, Maxine Simmons, who is a former beauty pageant queen trying to infiltrate Palm Beach high society. Conversely, in the novel, Maxine experiences exile from Scottsdale, Ariz., following a drunken outburst at Thanksgiving after her husband announces he’s leaving her for his secretary, instead of Palm Springs as portrayed in the series.

According to Jean Hanff Korelitz’s 2014 novel, “You Should Have Known“, Nicole Kidman once again shines in a leading role as she navigates a murder mystery. In this case, Grace Fraser (Kidman), a therapist, experiences her world being flipped when her husband Jonathan (Hugh Grant) becomes a suspect in the killing of Elena Alves (Matilda De Angelis).

Despite some mixed feelings about the show’s ending, there was universal agreement that Nicole Kidman’s costumes were outstanding throughout the series.

This crime drama centered around Dexter Morgan, portrayed by Michael C. Hall, who is both a blood splatter analyst during the day and a night-time serial killer, was initially inspired by books penned by author Jeff Lindsay. Over its eight-season run on Showtime, it built a dedicated fanbase and received 23 Emmy nominations. The series finale, however, was not an easy ending to wrap up.

In the year 2021, the creative minds attempted another chance to conclude Dexter’s tale in a special, limited series known as “Dexter: New Blood“.

As a lifestyle connoisseur, I can’t help but reminisce about my personal favorite Netflix original series, “Orange is the New Black,” which was brilliantly adapted from the memoir of the same name by Piper Kerman. After seven captivating seasons, we bid farewell to Litchfield Penitentiary in 2019, but the impact of this groundbreaking series continues to resonate.

Before the captivating presence of Kyle Chandler as Coach Taylor graced our television screens and hearts, this sports drama was initially a film starring Billy Bob Thornton in the same role. But in 2006, H.G. Bissinger’s non-fiction book “Friday Night Lights: A Town, a Team, and a Dream” made its way onto our small screens, converting even those who weren’t football fans into believers. Alongside Chandler, the series featured Connie Britton, Minka Kelly, Scott Porter, Michael B. Jordan, and everyone’s beloved troublemaker, Taylor Kitsch as Tim Riggins. Let’s all join in now, “Clear Eyes, Full Hearts…

In 2021, another Liane Moriarty novel adaptation made its way to Hulu! This time, it was the turn of “Nine Perfect Strangers,” which Nicole Kidman and David E. Kelley collaborated on again after their successful partnership in previous adaptations. The chic team consisted of Lucy Hale, Shay Mitchell, Ashley Benson, and Troian Bellisario, who managed to keep fans hooked throughout the seven seasons they aired on Freeform. As the end drew near, PLL attempted to resolve all the questions its vast fanbase had been pondering. Whether their answers were satisfactory is a topic for another discussion.

In a captivating retelling, the SyFy series titled “The Magicians” offers readers of Lev Grossman’s acclaimed book series a peek into the enchanting realm of Brakebills University students. These characters grapple with the usual college struggles (such as complicated relationships and substance abuse issues), but with an extra layer – mastering their magical abilities, making life even more intricate. Over five seasons, the missions became increasingly urgent, often requiring the heroes to save the multiverse or magic itself. (Just another ordinary day, isn’t it?) However, one constant factor remained: You could always anticipate a remarkable musical episode.

The charismatic cast, featuring Nina Dobrev, Paul Wesley, Kat Graham, and Ian Somerhalder, significantly boosted the appeal of this supernatural TV series on The CW. Fans of L. J.
