Marvel’s Next Big Bad Just Destroyed Galactus – And It’s Coming for Storm

I’ve been on an exhilarating journey with the enigmatic Storm, one of Marvel Universe’s greatest heroes, who stands among the rare few – X-Men, Avengers, and Fantastic Four members, with Spider-Man and Wolverine being the others. However, Storm’s writer, Murewa Ayodale, has elevated her to an unparalleled level of mutant power. Storm has been a shining beacon in the “From the Ashes” X-Men relaunch, undoubtedly the best solo comic book due to Ayodele, artist Lucas Werneck, and issue #7’s guest artist Luciano Vecchio. The series is a visual feast of high-concept awesomeness that propels Storm to new heights. In issue #7, Storm is drafted by the Avengers to tackle a catastrophic weather anomaly in Brazil, but that’s not all; another plotline intertwines with Storm’s transformation into the Eternal Storm.

In her latest series, Storm has encountered numerous trials, one of which was an extraordinary event that neither the Krakoa Era nor any other can claim – Storm perished. Yet, thanks to Brother Voodoo’s intervention, she was brought back to life. For seven days, her mutant abilities were absent, but it wasn’t just Brother Voodoo who took notice of Storm. Even Eternity, the very embodiment of the universe, appointed her as his Herald, preparing her for a new cosmic danger. Issue #7 of Storm offers a significant glimpse into this, as the narrative unfolds shortly in the future, with the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe cast confronting a dire threat – Galactus and Silver Surfer.

The End of all Things

In the imminent future, I find myself at the edge of the cosmos, standing over fallen cosmic beings, among them Cosmic Ghost Rider. Wielding the Twilight Sword of Surtur and harnessing its power with that of my surfboard, I transform into Silver Surfer Soot – a powerful new form. Excited as this transformation is, I must admit the name leaves something to be desired. With renewed strength, I soar towards my ancient master, Galactus. The tone of our current situation suggests the end of all we know, and it appears that both Galactus and I are preparing for a final battle against an adversary who even Galactus must face: the Ender, a manifestation of dark powers.

For the first time within the Marvel Universe, a being known as the Ender has made an appearance, though it has gone by other names such as the Universal Plague, the Black Winter, the Devourer of Realms, and the Rot Storm. Readers may recall the name Black Winter from Donny Cates’ “Thor” series, where it was depicted as a cosmic force that brought about the annihilation of Galactus. The narrative later reveals that the Ender hails from beyond our universe and needed to traverse the realm of Oblivion to enter the 616, seemingly dragging the Oblivion Void along with it. In its path, Galactus is consumed by the Ender as it advances towards the Marvel Universe.

Oblivion Comes for Us All

In the Marvel Universe, Galactus is a formidable figure. This upcoming MCU character has devoured Celestials as if they were mere breakfast items and is one of the most menacing powers in the cosmos. He’s an unchanging presence and a hunter at the top of the food chain. Anything capable of overpowering Galactus demonstrates immense strength, a level that Storm currently possesses. Eternity has summoned Storm to protect the universe, and it seems that at some point in time, she will encounter forces hailing from beyond the Oblivion Void.

In simpler terms, “Eternity” refers to the essence of the universe, and any being as powerful as Ender poses a threat to it. While Storm may not be everyone’s initial pick for guarding the embodiment of the universe, her selection does make sense. Storm is renowned for her immense power and skill among mutants in the Marvel Universe, with some fans even growing weary of her portrayal as an all-powerful character. Yet, it’s hard to argue against her being one of the best. Will Storm protect us from destruction? That’s the expectation set by the comic book series Storm, and that’s why readers continue to follow it.

Storm #7 is on sale now.
