Caitríona Balfe Gets Emotional Over Saying Goodbye to Claire in Outlander’s Final Season

Fans of Outlander have had plenty of time to get ready, but the much-loved series will officially conclude forever when its eighth season premieres.

Even though we haven’t received a specific release date yet (it’s anticipated to be between late 2025 and early 2026), it’s been confirmed that filming for the final run was completed last year. As we recently had an opportunity to talk with Caitríona Balfe, who played Claire Fraser, about her role in The Amateur, a new spy thriller, we couldn’t help but inquire about her feelings on parting ways with the character.

It seems as though we might be on the brink of a new phase, similar to the anticipation before a new season begins. We often experience pauses, yet this one feels different – it’s like I’m gradually bidding farewell to her.

She said sadly, “She’ll forever remain by my side,” implying that after playing a role for eleven years, the character has become an integral part of her identity and experiences.

Regarding the closing stages of the show, Balfe hinted that the series finale is going to be “stunningly beautiful.

She expressed her sincere wish that they genuinely enjoy the final season and recognize it as an appropriate goodbye to something we’ve valued their support of for such a long time.

As we step into this enchanting season, I can’t help but feel moved by its conclusion. I truly hope my fellow cinematic enthusiasts find it as breathtakingly beautiful as I do.

As a dedicated cinephile, I must share an intriguing tidbit from behind the scenes. During the filmmaking process itself, it was unveiled that specific portions of the screenplay remained tightly sealed until the final hour – a secret closely guarded until the very end.

She shared with Collider, “They are holding back certain aspects of it until the day we shoot it. It’s quite intriguing, but I can’t reveal any spoilers since I myself am not privy to them.

Noteworthy to mention, author Diana Gabaldon, whose works serve as the foundation for this series, earlier cautioned viewers about a finale that won’t align too closely with the ending in her books.

On her Facebook page, she replied to a fan’s question about the show by saying: “I can’t reveal too many details about the series, but let me assure you that the ending of the show will be quite different from the books.

In The Amateur, Balfe portrays a character unlike Claire – an operative for the CIA named Inquiline, who develops a powerful bond with Rami Malek’s character, Charlie Heller, throughout the movie.

Balfe shared that she thoroughly enjoyed creating some “imaginative background details,” despite having limited information available.

She mentioned, “I have a bit of an interest in things like that,” she said. “For example, there’s ‘Legacy of Ashes [by Tim Weiner]’, an excellent book that delves into the CIA and various operations they’ve undertaken throughout history. It explores how some of these projects didn’t turn out as planned, features stories about their spies, and so on.

She explained, “Essentially, I’ve encountered similar situations before, but Inquiline seems to operate outside of the norm. She’s quite independent, which is intriguing. And I believe I chose to portray her as someone pioneering a novel approach.

Indeed, it’s true that her roots are connected to that realm, but the manner in which she operates is distinctively hers – self-directed and unique, which makes it rather appealing.

In the United States, you can stream “Outlander” on Starz, while viewers in the UK have access to it on MGM+. If you prefer reading Diana Gabaldon’s books, they are available for purchase on Amazon.
