In the upcoming episodes of Doctor Who, Varada Sethu will rejoin the cast, but this time she won’t be portraying her previous character Mundy Flynn. Instead, she will bring to life a new character named Belinda Chandra.
In the upcoming season, rather than bypassing the fact that Mundy and Belinda are played by the same actor, the connection between these characters will be acknowledged and will form a significant part of the narrative revolving around Sethu’s associate.
It covers, clearly, many thousands of years – and it’s part of what makes her unique, the individual the Doctor is seeking, she hinted playfully.
According to Doctor Who showrunner Russell T Davies, it will be immediately evident that Belinda is connected to Mundy. Previously on Doctor Who, the show has often reprised guest stars as companion characters.

It’s been customary to incorporate such elements into our stories. For instance, we had Freema Agyeman portray her character’s cousin who was killed by the Cybermen. That was quite ingenious, don’t you think? It’s fascinating how we came up with that idea!
For quite some time now, Ian Marter, who was Harry during Tom Baker’s tenure, had been featured in an episode titled ‘Carnival of Monsters’. Peter Purves made his appearance much earlier, back in 1966, initially playing Morton Dill and later returning as the recurring character Steven Taylor.
It seems like what’s happening now has happened before, but the Doctor appears to be thinking, ‘I’ve encountered someone who looks familiar.’ He even wonders aloud, ‘Could this be mere coincidence?’ Stay tuned!

Sethu portrays Belinda as the primary protagonist of her personal narrative, one who isn’t star-struck by the Doctor. Additionally, viewers should get excited about the comeback of Millie Gibson as Ruby Sunday.
Moreover, Anita Dobson will be returning to play the mysterious Mrs. Flood, suggesting exciting plot twists for her character.
In addition, notable appearances are made by Freddie Fox, Christopher Chung, Rose Ayling-Ellis, along with recurring characters from UNIT, including Jemma Redgrave and Bonnie Langford.
Eight episodes make up this season, with scripts penned collaboratively by Russell T Davies as well as other talented writers such as Pete McTighe, Juno Dawson, Inua Ellams, and Sharma Angel-Walfall.
Starting this coming Saturday, the 12th of April, Doctor Who will air every week at 6:50pm on BBC One in the United Kingdom. For those who want to catch up or watch episodes multiple times, new installments will be accessible from 8am every Saturday on BBC iPlayer. For viewers residing outside of the UK, the series can be found on Disney+.
