Doctor Who’s Ncuti Gatwa and Sex Education’s Edward Bluemel team up for Shakespeare and Marlowe play

An exciting reunion for fans of “Sex Education” is upcoming, with Ncuti Gatwa and Edward Bluemel set to appear together on stage in London’s West End. They will star in the European premiere of Liz Duffy Adams’ play, “Born With Teeth.

The play presents a fictional encounter between playwrights Christopher Marlowe and William Shakespeare, during Shakespeare’s rise to prominence.

1591 Winter. A perilous era for artists as the nation brims with intrigue and suspicion. In the dimly lit corner of a tavern, two literary powerhouses, Kit Marlowe and Will Shakespeare, are unwillingly bound in a creative partnership. Secluded, their workspace doubles as stage and battleground, where they hone their quills – unleashing their brilliance.

Over three clandestine gatherings, they engage in fierce competition and subtle flirting as if their very existence hinged upon it. Given the presence of spies all around, treachery becomes an enticing proposition.

The upcoming play is being led by co-artistic director Daniel Evans of the Royal Shakespeare Company, and it’s set to run at Wyndham’s Theatre for a brief span of 11 weeks starting from August 13th, 2025, through November 1st, 2025.

Evans expressed to Deadline that when considering who would embody Marlowe best, in terms of his danger, wit, and energy, there is no more fitting choice than Ncuti Gatwa.

The charm, wit, and authority he brings as an actor perfectly meet the requirements of this script. There’s a unique allure about him that is undeniably Marlowe. I’m truly excited to collaborate with such a talented individual.

As for Bluemel, he noted that Edward possesses an exceptional sensitivity for this role. With an enchanting charm, likability, and remarkable intelligence, Edward seems perfectly suited for portraying Shakespeare at the onset of his career in our production.

It’s quite exhilarating to appreciate Marlowe’s work and keep up with his activities. Simultaneously, the thought often crosses my mind, ‘Perhaps I can surpass Marlowe in what he does.’ Combined, they truly make an exciting duo.

Besides starring in Sex Education, Bluemel also plays characters in shows like Killing Eve, Castlevania: Nocturne, My Lady Jane, and is set to appear in The Seven Dials Mystery as well.

In the year 2023, Gatwa appeared in the movie “Barbie.” At present, he’s portraying the Doctor in “Doctor Who,” a series that will soon debut on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in the UK, and on Disney Plus globally.
