Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time Developer Would Love to Work on Banjo-Kazooie Game

The developers of Crash Bandicoot 4, Toys for Bob, have shared their enthusiasm about reviving the Banjo-Kazooie series in some capacity. In an interview with Canadian Guy Eh, studio head Paul Yan casually mentioned that they are fond of the idea and would be thrilled to work on Banjo-Kazooie.

Yan expressed that having independence offers numerous options, and one of those intriguing opportunities is the type of intellectual property (IP) the studio could pursue, as stated in response to a question about their future projects post-separation from Activision.

Yan mentioned, “Another company we’d love to collaborate with is one we’re currently collaborating with; Team Xbox. They’ve been an excellent partner and they also have a captivating list of characters that Toys for Bob could find incredibly engaging. The honey bear character particularly stands out. Don’t you think it’s high time Banjo woke up from his long nap?

As a gaming enthusiast, I’ve got some exciting news to share! Back in March, Toys for Bob made headlines when they announced their separation from Activision. Over the years, they’ve been a significant part of my gaming world, working on amazing titles like the Spyro Reignited Trilogy, Skylanders, and Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time, just to name a few.

Fast forward to now, after gaining independence, Toys for Bob has revealed that they’ve struck a deal with Microsoft! I can’t wait to see what this new chapter brings for us gamers!

Microsoft has announced that their studio will release its first game in May 2024, though specific details about this project remain undisclosed. Given the studio’s reputation, it’s reasonable to expect a modern take on the 3D platformer genre, reminiscent of iconic games from the Nintendo 64 console era.

As a passionate gamer, I can confidently say that Toys for Bob has truly solidified its reputation for crafting engaging 3D platformers with the release of Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time. Fast forward to April 2024, and it was announced that over 5 million copies of this game had been sold! That’s a testament to the fun and excitement it brought to gamers like me around the world.

Regarding Banjo-Kazooie, the original game’s composer, Grant Kirkhope, hints that it may be some time before we witness another installment in the series. On social media, Kirkhope expressed his desire for the franchise to return, but he questions whether there is still an audience for this type of game nowadays.

In simpler terms, Kirkhope had previously expressed his skepticism… However, he now harbors no optimism regarding a new Banjo game. Moreover, he believes that even if the game were exceptional, the dedicated fans would still criticize and denounce it without hesitation. History has shown that such attempts often fail.

Previously, Aaron Greenberg, Xbox’s Vice President of Games Marketing, has also talked about the beloved Banjo-Kazooie series. He expressed his understanding of how important this franchise is to its devoted fans, following some comments he made at an event where he suggested that there isn’t much interest in Banjo-Kazooie nowadays.

At present, you can only enjoy ‘Banjo-Kazooie’ on the Nintendo Switch due to its extensive library of classic games accessible via online services. Additionally, it is also playable on Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S through the ‘Rare Replay’ compilation, which encompasses these iconic platforming adventures within its collection.

In the game “Super Smash Bros. Ultimate,” you can play with Banjo and Kazooie as characters. This pair was introduced as a single character, featuring moves inspired by both Banjo’s and Kazooie’s abilities, which were added as part of Challenge Pack 3 back in the year 2019.
