Intel Arc graphics driver update improves “performance and frame pacing” on MSI Claw handhelds with Core Ultra 200V chips

I’ve just learned that the freshly released Intel Arc graphics driver version 32.0.101.6734 can now be downloaded directly from Intel’s official website, following its debut on April 8th. The update comes with an intriguing changelog, and notably, it seems to have dropped the “Game On” enhancements for any PC game in this version, a departure from the recent drivers that boosted performance in games such as Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.

Instead, this fresh approach centers around the MSI Claw 8 AI+ and MSI Claw 7 AI+ portable gaming PCs, which are uniquely equipped with Intel’s Ultra 200V Series processors. The power management enhancements incorporated into these models should enhance framerate synchronization in power-saving modes on both devices.

In our Claw 8 AI+ evaluation, we mention that MSI’s premium handheld device offers the ability to switch among 8W, 17W, and 30W modes for its power consumption (Thermal Design Power) based on user preference, or it can be set to adjust these settings autonomously using its “AI Engine”.

Using a lower power mode may slow down battery depletion, but it could potentially cause performance issues such as stuttering. Intel’s latest driver is said to address these types of performance issues.

Indeed, the latest Intel Arc graphics driver works flawlessly with a variety of processors across different generations, including 11th Gen to 14th Gen Core processors, Core Ultra models, as well as discrete desktop graphics such as the A-Series “Alchemist” and B-Series “Battlemage,” which includes budget-friendly Intel Arc B570 and B580 cards.

Is the the MSI Claw affected by the recent tariffs?

Due to the continuous application of high import taxes by both the U.S. and China, it’s likely that handheld gaming devices manufactured in the Eastern countries could see an increase in their production costs as a result.

Previously noted on our portable price tracking tool, the MSI Claw 7 AI+ has increased from $799 to $829. It’s possible that the MSI Claw 8 AI+ might experience a similar price hike in the near future.
