Due to the ongoing tariff issues, I’ve made a point to monitor the pricing trends of video game handhelds within the United States, to determine whether or not their prices will increase from their original amounts.
When examining top-tier portable gaming devices available now, I found an interesting observation: The newly released MSI Claw 8 AI+ and MSI Claw 7 AI+ gaming handhelds are currently priced $100 more on MSI’s US website than their original manufacturer suggested retail prices (MSRP).
As a tech enthusiast, I’m excited to share some great news! The manufacturers have decided to slightly adjust the prices of their AI-powered devices. Starting today, the Claw 8 AI+ will now retail at $999.99 instead of its original price of $899.99. Meanwhile, the Claw 7 AI+ will now be available for $899.99, an increase from its previous price of $799.99. Keep in mind, these are the Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Prices (MSRP). Let’s continue exploring the world of tech together!
At present, the MSI U.K. site continues to display the Claw 8 AI+ priced at £899.00. It appears that the Claw 7 AI+ is not available in the U.K. and there are no indications that it will be introduced there.
These devices were already pretty expensive before, but now their prices are a little insane.
Given the sky-high tariffs currently imposed on China, which is where most gaming handheld devices originate from, it’s no surprise that prices have risen for these gadgets. As a dedicated fan, I find myself anticipating the day when costs might decrease due to changes in production locations or tariff reductions.
If you’ve been considering purchasing a handheld device, it could be wise to do so soon, as prices may keep rising.
Other price increases are likely coming very soon
As I pen down these words, I notice that major US retailers such as Newegg, B&H, and Amazon are currently displaying the initial Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Prices (MSRPs) for the MSI Claw AI+ handhelds. However, I anticipate that this may alter in the imminent future.
It’s important to mention that Best Buy previously raised the price of the Claw 7 AI+ from $799.99 to $829.00. There’s a possibility they might increase it further, aiming for a price that aligns with the Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) displayed on the MSI website.
These price increases aren’t just something limited to MSI handhelds.
Previously stated, a significant number of portable gaming devices sold within the United States are actually produced in China. Consequently, these products will likely experience increased costs due to high tariffs, which can reach an astonishing 145%.
In essence, it seems quite possible that the prices for popular handheld video game systems across America will significantly rise unless the ongoing tariff issues are resolved.
As a devoted tech enthusiast, I’ve always kept an eye on upcoming gadgets like the Lenovo Legion Go S (SteamOS). To my surprise, even before Trump’s tariffs kicked in, I noticed a price hike of $50 on this device at Best Buy. It went from $499.99 to $549.99. Quite an increase, isn’t it?

Xbox is partnering with ASUS ROG to produce an Xbox-branded ROG Ally.
Additionally, I found out that the initial setup for the standard ASUS ROG Ally Z1 (not the Extreme version) is not available on Best Buy’s website, only open-box options are being offered at present.
Indeed, it might simply be an uncanny coincidence that this recent event aligns with the tariff predicament.
It’s worth noting that ASUS has hinted at a future ROG Ally model due in 2025, and my coworker was the first to reveal this year’s collaboration between ASUS and Xbox on a handheld device, codenamed “Project Kennan”.
It seems possible that the ROG Ally Z1 has reached its maturity phase, and Best Buy might be opting not to replenish stock to prepare for the arrival of newer generation devices.
Additionally, there’s a chance that Best Buy decided to discontinue selling this handheld device due to the increased costs associated with importing additional inventory under the new tariffs.
