I’m thrilled to be part of the enthusiastic crowd announcing that the fresh chapter of Doctor Who has taken off! As a supporter, I can’t wait to join the Doctor (Ncuti Gatwa) on his latest adventure, unraveling a captivating enigma. Not only does he make a new friend along the way, but also reconnects with a face that holds a hint of nostalgia.
During the Robot Uprising, the Time Lord embarked on a quest to locate Belinda Chandra, a character portrayed by Varada Sethu. It was hinted that this individual held significant importance, a fact he learned from a yet unidentified source.
On a chaotic day, Belinda gets abducted by an army of rogue robots and transported to their alien planet. However, fortunately, the Doctor manages to rescue her later, with aid from a group of rebels. They then find safety in the dismal underworld.
As nurse Belinda avoids the relentless robots, she regrets that she should have begun her fresh assignment at the hospital “on Monday” – this casual remark triggers a spark of understanding in the Doctor.
In a previous instance, Varada Sethu graced the screens of Doctor Who, portraying Mundy Flynn – an ordained Anglican marine – in the 2024 episode Boom. This performance left such an impact on showrunner Russell T Davies that he invited Sethu to rejoin the cast as a permanent character and new companion, Belinda. However, the show tackles the situation where Mundy is essentially a double for Belinda, in what manner?

In a previous discussion, Sethu stated that there exists a “genetic connection” between these two individuals that stretches over “multiple millennia,” as Belinda resides in the 21st century while Mundy hails from the 51st century; it is further established in The Robot Revolution that Mundy is a direct descendant of Belinda.
The Doctor expresses, “Belinda, there’s something tying us together that goes beyond our mechanical selves.” He shares a fascinating revelation, “I’ve traveled to the future and encountered your descendant on a distant planet in the 51st century. Her name was Mundy Flynn.
Could it be that there’s a deeper connection between the two characters of Sethu, one that surpasses mere familial ties? Interestingly enough, The Doctor highlights their striking physical resemblance, a similarity that seems rather unlikely, even among family members.
This intriguing genetic connection has left the doctor puzzled, as he muses, “Could this be mere coincidence, or is there something deeper at play? I find myself contemplating, my dear Bel, whether our bond was destined to exist.
As the current season of Doctor Who unfolds, it appears there are still many secrets to be revealed. For instance, we’re left wondering about the enigmatic force that initially connected the Doctor with Mundy and later with Belinda, and why Belinda can’t return to Earth in 2025. The intrigue continues!
As a devoted movie buff, I’m excited to share that the next installment of Doctor Who unfolds on Saturday, April 19th at 7:15pm, only on BBC One here in the UK. For those who can’t wait until then, episodes will be available from 8am on Saturdays on BBC iPlayer. For viewers outside of the UK, fear not! The series will be accessible on Disney+. Enjoy the journey through time and space!
