Pokemon Finds Cozy Competitor After Kickstarter Gets Fully Funded Instantly

Discussing whether the main Pokemon games can be considered “cozy” is subjective, but many fans of the franchise have expressed a wish for a game that offers a more relaxed, non-combat focused experience with their Pokemon companions. A new project on Kickstarter appears to be catering to this desire, offering a combination of farming simulation and creature collection, which resonates strongly with gamers. Within just 16 minutes of being launched, the project was fully funded, indicating a high demand for the unique blend of vibes offered by this upcoming game.

The game under discussion is titled “Monsterpatch,” developed by Sean Young, known for the 2019 hit farming sim “Littlewood.” Currently, Young is working on their next project, aiming to deliver the tranquil, creature-gathering atmosphere that many gamers seek. Over time, numerous creature collector games have emerged, some incorporating life simulation elements similar to those in “Moonstone Island.” However, the Kickstarter page for this game demonstrates the amount of planning and creativity already invested – even before its completion.

Based on the first Kickstarter update by Sean Young, the game surpassed its initial funding target in an astounding 16 minutes! Since then, additional stretch goals have been added and accomplished, making the game Monsterpatch all the more intriguing for gamers. At present, a total of 10 out of the game’s stretch goals have been achieved, with only two left to unlock. The features that have been unlocked include special Shiny versions of MoNs and a Nintendo Switch version of the game. It’s evident that Monsterpatch offers something that gamers are eager to support.

What Kind of Game Will Monsterpatch Be?

Initially, what’s striking about Monsterpatch might be its ambiance. It exudes a soft, pixel-art charm that is both calming and evocative of fond memories. However, the gameplay aspects make it even more appealing, so let’s explore further into the insights the developer has provided regarding this charming alternative to Pokemon.

In the game called Monsterpatch, players traverse a continent, gathering magical beings known as MoNs, similar to Pokemon. However, unlike traditional games where returning home is optional, in Monsterpatch it’s strongly recommended. Players can return home to cultivate crops, enjoy leisure activities with their MoNs, and even more, all within their hometown. The town in Monsterpatch is not static; it has the potential for new Non-Player Characters (NPCs) to move in over time. Additionally, for those who love decorating, Monsterpatch allows you to customize and personalize your hometown.

This game stands out with distinct features such as the ruling Houses in each city and the captivating wizard-versus-wizard aspect. In this game, winning conflicts not only grants XP but also opens up new spells and possibilities. What’s fascinating about these spells is that they aren’t exclusively for combat; instead, they aid you in performing various activities we enjoy, such as farming, fishing, and many others.

Starting from April 12th, you have 11 more days to join the Kickstarter campaign and secure rewards such as a Steam Key for the game, access to Alpha and Beta versions, the Digital Collector’s Edition, and more. The game is set to launch on PC, Mac, and Linux through Steam, with additional support on Nintendo Switch thanks to stretch goal funding. Please note that the Alpha/Beta testing will only be accessible via Steam. Although there isn’t an exact release date for Monsterpatch yet, creator Young mentioned that a roadmap would be shared shortly after the Kickstarter concludes.
