Bungie has verified that their newly introduced shooter game, Marathon, will be a “paid” title rather than free-to-play. However, it won’t carry the usual $70 price tag.
In a tweet, the developer addressed a GameSpot preview that labeled an upcoming online game as a high-end product requiring full payment. Bungie concurs with this assessment but clarifies that Marathon won’t be sold at the regular price. They plan to reveal more information about it during the summer.
Sony typically sets its first-party games at a price of around $70. However, with their recent multiplayer projects like Concord and Helldivers 2, which are online-focused games, the retail price has been lowered to $40. It’s not confirmed yet, but it seems probable that Marathon will also be priced at $40. What we do know for sure is that access won’t be free, unlike some free-to-play games.
On September 23rd, 2025, you’ll find Marathon – a fast-paced first-person shooter – available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. In this game, teams of three players each (up to six teams in total) battle it out for valuable loot. The ultimate goal is to extract the loot at the end, making a daring escape with your newly-acquired gear.
