At C2E2, DC unveiled an exciting twist for one of its major characters, introducing a cosmic chaos into the life of a well-known hero. During the Kyle Higgins Presents: Radiant Black, The Massive-Verse, and More panel at C2E2, DC announced a new Batman Elseworlds series called Immortal Legend Batman. This series boasts a talented team including Kyle Higgins (Radiant Black, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers), Mat Groom (Ultraman, Inferno Girl Red), Dan Mora (Superman, Justice League Unlimited), Erica D’Urso (Captain Marvel, Inferno Girl Red), colorist Igor Monti, and letterer Becca Carey. As the first look suggests, this isn’t your typical Batman tale, as it’s set far in the future and showcases an array of innovative technology for the Dark Knight to utilize.
In the future, an eternal iteration of Batman exists in a universe where humans have constructed sprawling metropolises on numerous planets, powered by dark matter. This discovery, however, also shattered the boundary to the cosmos’ darkness, resulting in the emergence of malevolent, soulless entities called Shadows.
Nearly destroying everything, but three remarkable figures found a way to connect their realm with the shadow world, thereby achieving Immortal Legend status. The trio in question is Batman, Robin, and Nightwing. As you’ll notice from the artwork presented, Mora has crafted extraordinary designs for this intergalactic journey, tailored specifically for Batman, Robin, and Nightwing.
According to Higgins, some projects are a blend of ideal timing, innovative concepts, and exceptional creative teams. The Immortal Legend Batman project, which has been under development for years, began with the captivating designs by Dan Mora that Mat and he initially admired. Their affinity for Tokusatsu, evident in series like Radiant Black and Inferno Girl Red, is reflected here. Working together with Mat, Erica, Igor, Becca, and editor Matt Levine, who they collaborated with on Power Rangers, this project surpasses the ideal mix of elements. Essentially, it’s more than just a perfect storm; it’s a unique blend of creativity and passion that promises an extraordinary take on Gotham and these iconic characters.
In simpler terms, Groom stated that Batman is the ultimate fictional hero, and they aimed to reimagine all his remarkable qualities – his unwavering resolve, strength, and selflessness. To achieve this fresh perspective, they are sending Batman into space, transforming him into a traveling hero, who will traverse the vastness of space, humanity’s ultimate frontier, while encountering potentially dangerous threats he may have inadvertently unleashed across the galaxy.
The Eternal Batman Legend shows strong influences from science fiction and Japanese tokusatsu tales, which aligns perfectly with our team’s expertise, given their extensive work in Power Rangers, Ultraman, and the Massive-Verse. Here is the official description for Eternal Batman Legend: [Description provided below]
In the far future, human civilization expands across galaxies, establishing grand metropolises on numerous planets and smaller settlements on many more. To traverse the immense spaces between solar systems, humans utilized dark matter to warp space-time around their spacecraft, ranging from massive colony ships to individual mech suits. By tapping into this dark power, humanity breached the boundary between our universe and its corresponding shadow realm.
This led to the emergence of “Shadows”: mindless, emotionless specters yearning for nothing but chaos and devastation. Due to the destructive activities of these Shadow entities, freshly colonized planets were pushed to the verge of ruin. However, three warriors discovered a means to tap into the energy that connected their realm with the shadow realm, transforming them into “Immortal Legends”: Immortal Legend Batman, Immortal Legend Robin, and Immortal Legend Nightwing!
Starting this coming Friday, the 23rd of May, I’ll have the chance to pre-order the timeless legend, Batman! This epic character will be landing in comic book stores and digital retailers on the 27th of August. Can’t wait!
