A Blizzard Game Is Reportedly Getting a “Netflix Treatment”

Over the past few years, numerous well-known video games have been turned into movies or TV shows. For instance, “A Minecraft Movie” was made as a feature film with a wide cinema release, while “Fallout” and “The Last of Us” were transformed into longer-running series on streaming platforms like Amazon Prime Video, HBO, and Netflix. Gaming enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting the arrival of their own “Dungeons & Dragons” TV series, and it appears that another big franchise could be next in line for what’s being called the “Netflix Treatment.” In a recent podcast discussion, a trustworthy source hinted that one of Blizzard’s franchises might soon receive a Netflix adaptation.

Information provided by Jez Corden, co-host of the podcast “The Xbox Two” and a trusted source for gaming news updates, hinted during a recent episode about the 2025 Xbox Games Showcase that a well-known Blizzard franchise is in line to receive some kind of Netflix adaptation. Although he didn’t specify which games could be involved, there aren’t many large Blizzard franchises that he might be alluding to.

As a devoted fan, I can’t help but admire Blizzard Entertainment for creating some of the most iconic video games out there, such as Overwatch, World of Warcraft, Diablo, and StarCraft. Among these, World of Warcraft and Diablo are still thriving with fresh content being regularly released. This active development makes them prime candidates for a Netflix adaptation. However, a comeback for an older franchise like StarCraft could also be an exciting move to reinvigorate it.

What Would a Netflix Adaptation for Blizzard Games Look Like?

In the same podcast episode, Rand al Thor 19 posits that a Netflix adaptation of StarCraft appears to be the most probable scenario. Given the success of movies like Minecraft in reigniting a fanbase for video games, it seems logical to attempt an adaptation if there are plans for a new StarCraft game. However, Diablo IV has faced some setbacks with its first DLC receiving a lukewarm response, while Overwatch is now facing competition from Marvel Rivals. As a result, Blizzard might be looking to rekindle interest in one of their long-running games as well.

Historically, Netflix’s “big video game series” have primarily been animated, such as Arcane, Castlevania, and Carmen Sandiego, along with other Netflix Originals derived from video games. Lately, deals for games like Dungeons & Dragons are shifting towards live-action adaptations. This might suggest that Netflix is considering venturing into live-action productions to match the success of live-action series like The Last of Us.

Currently, there’s no official word about Netflix or other adaptations for Blizzard’s game franchises. While Corden is a trusted source, he mentioned that this is merely a rumor he’s heard, making it more speculative than confirmed news. If and when we get any substantial updates regarding a Blizzard adaptation, it might not be until the BlizzCon event in 2026. This convention is where significant announcements are often made, so Blizzard may choose to wait until then before unveiling any adaptation plans.

Although BlizzCon is quite some time away, we’re yet to get a comprehensive schedule of events, making it challenging to predict what exciting announcements might surface during the weekend. It’s also plausible that news regarding potential adaptations could be shared earlier if rumors about a Blizzard Netflix series indeed turn out to be accurate.
