Assassin’s Creed 2

Kick-starting our discussion without delay, let’s bring up Assassin’s Creed 2. This game, a captivating sequel in the beloved Ubisoft series featuring assassins versus templars, stars the adored character Ezio Auditore. The majority of the action takes place in Italy, primarily between Florence and Venice, during the heart of the Italian Renaissance.

In this game, we follow the adventures of Ezio Auditore, a gifted yet defiant young man frequently at odds with Vieri de’ Pazzi, a scion of another influential family. One fateful day, his father, an advisor to Lorenzo de’ Medici, entrusts him with delivering letters to the latter, setting off the entire narrative of Assassin’s Creed 2, intertwining present and past events.

Indeed, following the incarceration of his father and two siblings, Ezio transitions into a vigilante, spending the subsequent decade tracking down the Templars in an attempt to mete out justice. His travels during this period take him far and wide, where he encounters many significant figures of the era, including Leonardo da Vinci, whom he befriends and whose assistance proves beneficial in his crusade against the Templars. Over time, Ezio becomes a full-fledged member of the Assassins and engages in a power struggle with Rodrigo Borgia, who has ascended to the papacy as Pope Alexander VI. The conflict revolves around recovering another fragment of Eden. Despite defeating him, Ezio shows mercy and spares Rodrigo, thereby progressing toward unlocking the crypt using an apple and a staff. In the end, a hologram of Minerva materializes, revealing that humanity was created by the First Civilization and explaining their eventual destruction.

Martha is Dead

As a gamer, I’m immersed in the gripping tale of Martha is Dead, a psychological thriller unfolding in the Tuscan countryside during the tumultuous times of World War II. I step into the shoes of Giulia, a young woman of 21, who on a routine trip to collect her cameras set along the lakeshore the previous day, encounters a haunting sight: a girl’s body floating lifelessly in the lake. Despite my best efforts, I fail to save her and soon realize that this was actually the body of my twin sister Martha. Overwhelmed by shock and fatigue, I collapse, only to be discovered by my parents shortly after.

The narrative of Martha is Dead unfolds as it intertwines historical facts, local legends, and imaginative elements. As the character portrayed by Giulia, she embarks on a quest to uncover the mystery surrounding her sister’s demise. Despite the initial speculation of a revenge killing linked to the ongoing war, Giulia harbors doubts about this theory and decides to conduct her own investigation. Who could possibly be behind such a heinous act? As we delve further into the storyline, we will gradually uncover more clues that will eventually help us piece together the truth about this tragic event.

Remothered: Tormented Fathers

In this scenario, we portray the character of Rosemary Reed, a psychiatrist hailing from Santa Margherita Institute, who made a house call to Richard Felton in Remothered: Tormented Fathers – a video game set in an imaginary Italian hamlet reminiscent of Jodie Foster’s character in The Silence of the Lambs. Despite her understanding that her unique condition cannot be diagnosed or treated, she seeks another opportunity to delve into the case of the former clinic patient, an elderly man who was previously dismissed. Upon meeting him, however, Rosemary initiates a more personal conversation, inquiring about his daughter Celeste, who is rumored to have left home under mysterious circumstances.

Initially kind and approachable, the man, who we later discover is not a doctor as Gloria, his nurse, has found out, abruptly becomes agitated and dismisses us. However, undeterred, we sneak back into the house to question Dr. Felton’s wife with the hope of uncovering more about Celeste’s disappearance, given Rosemary’s crucial role in this mystery. Unfortunately, our decision to return proves to be ill-advised, as it leads Rosemary straight into a nightmare within the mansion. The events that unfold will prove to be a living hell for Rosemary, forcing her to fight for survival against religious cults, mysterious illnesses, parasites, hypnosis sessions, unstable individuals, and other terrifying ordeals.

The Town of Light

In “The Town of Light,” we assume the perspective of Renée, a 16-year-old girl who was forcibly confined in the asylum of Volterra, Tuscany. Our journey begins at the asylum’s entrance, where a grown Renée strives to reconstruct the traumatic memories of that ordeal. As we accompany her on this journey, we will gradually uncover the terrible hardships she experienced – hardships that not only afflicted her but also countless other patients. Our path takes us from supposedly gentle therapies to persistent sexual abuse, forced psychological torment, electric shock treatments, solitary confinement, suicide attempts, fatalities, and unspeakable cruelties. A handful of disillusioned doctors were the only ones who bore witness to the patients’ lives being systematically destroyed.

In The Town of Light, the psychiatric institution portrayed is indeed real and visiting its eerie, abandoned corridors can be deeply unsettling. Although the story itself may be true to some extent, it’s likely that the character of Renée has been fictionalized. As you explore and find old surgical texts scattered about, you gain a comprehensive view of the state of medicine during that time and the remarkable progress made since then. The game weaves a heart-wrenching narrative around Renée, a young girl wrongfully confined and tormented with the complicity of her mother, by filling in the gaps between numerous flashbacks.

The Forgotten City

Originally, The Forgotten City started as a mod for Skyrim, but due to its widespread success, the creators transformed it into a separate game. In this game, the backdrop is modern-day Rome. Your archaeology-loving character is investigating ruins along the Tiber when, unexpectedly, the mosaic underfoot unveils as a magical trapdoor. With a jolt, the floor breaks open, and time seems to freeze, just like the protagonist’s shocked breath, as they plummet through it.

the abandoned city now lies ahead, a pristine jail with no escape route, governed by a strict divine law that’s soon to be defied, yet by whom and for what purpose?
