Following an initial bumpy start, KUNOS Simulazioni’s Assetto Corsa EVO now stands on firmer ground, offering Special Events, Driving Academy, and additional features to early access players. Yet, there are even greater things in store, as detailed by executive Manager and studio co-founder Marco Massarutto in a recent video update.
As a gamer, I’m excited about the new additions coming to my racing game. There are two main features that stand out: Open Mode and the revamped Career Mode. The first one, Open Mode, lets me play offline without needing an internet connection. It’s perfect for those moments when I just want to hop in and race without worrying about my connection.
The other feature is the upgraded Career Mode. This mode brings together progression, a virtual economy within the game, and the Driving Academy. That means I can build my career, manage my finances, and learn the ropes of racing all within this mode – and best of all, no internet connection required!
However, there’s also something called Special Events that will be available in both modes. To participate in these events, I’ll need to be connected online. But overall, it looks like there’s plenty for me to enjoy whether I’m playing offline or online.
Improvements in VR and triple-screen performance, artificial intelligence behavior adaptable to skill level, an upgraded user interface for AI driver grids, a fresh Custom Race Weekend feature, and multiplayer are on the horizon. The multiplayer aspect is currently being tested internally and will be rolled out this Summer, featuring enhanced network code and continuous enhancements for a smooth and competitive online gaming experience.
Ultimately, KUNOS is planning to bring the desired vehicles (such as open-wheelers) earlier than anticipated and will incorporate modding tools during the early access phase rather than afterwards. Keep an eye out for a revised timeline in due course.
Assetto Corsa EVO is available for PC via Steam Early Access. Check out our impressions here.
