Sony has announced that they are increasing the cost of PlayStation 5 (PS5) systems yet again. This latest price rise will impact the United Kingdom, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. The adjustments take effect immediately and affect the base PS5 digital edition in the UK and Europe, while both the digital and standard versions will be affected in Australia and New Zealand.

Instead of being affected by rising prices, Sony is lowering the cost of its PlayStation 5 disc drives to £69.99 in the UK, €79.99 in Europe, AUD $124.95 in Australia, and NZD $139.95 in New Zealand, as a response to price hikes.
Due to a difficult economic situation with rising inflation and currency volatility, Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) has chosen to increase the suggested retail price (SRP) for the PlayStation 5 consoles in certain regions such as Europe, Middle East, Africa (EMEA), Australia, and New Zealand.
During this gaming generation, Sony has boosted the PS5’s price on several occasions, making it the second time they’ve increased their product prices within just a few days. The cost of all three PS Plus tiers will see an increase in 15 Latin American countries, Australia, and Asian regions such as Hong Kong, China, and Taiwan.
As a fellow gaming enthusiast down under, I can’t help but feel a pang of disappointment. The cost of the coveted PlayStation 5 console is set to rise for us Aussies, and the subscription fee for the primary service in PS Plus is poised to increase starting this Wednesday. Sony has issued a heads-up that other countries outside Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) may also experience an upward trend in PS5 prices.
