GTA 6 could spark a comeback that consoles need as PC revenue overtakes with growth

Based on recent findings from Newzoo, it’s only the PC market that has experienced an increase in earnings compared to previous years. Although console sales are decreasing, they haven’t reached their end quite yet.

In the upcoming years, a game that appears exclusive but isn’t truly so is expected on console platforms. It’s possible you’ve come across its name already – Grand Theft Auto 6 – could this potential blockbuster be our long-awaited game changer?

Based on the latest study findings, console sales dropped by 2.1% compared to the same period, whereas Windows PC sales increased slightly by 1.2%. However, it’s predicted that Grand Theft Auto 6 could contribute significantly and potentially cause consoles to surpass PC in market share.

Grand Theft Auto 6 is the next “winter is coming”

Without a shadow of a doubt, Grand Theft Auto 6 has garnered an unprecedented level of anticipation, unlike any other game I’ve ever witnessed.

Many sectors outside of gaming, such as Netflix, TikTok, and YouTube, are bracing for potential competition from the anticipated powerhouse that is Grand Theft Auto 6. After all, there are only a finite number of leisure hours available to individuals in a given day.

As a tech enthusiast, if I find myself deeply engrossed in Grand Theft Auto 6, I often wonder when you might take a break to explore TikTok or indulge in Netflix binge-watching. If there are individuals out there who manage to juggle both TikTok and gaming simultaneously (which I must admit sounds quite impressive), then hats off to their multitasking skills! However, for the majority of us, it seems like we’re all locked into the thrilling world of GTA.

Grand Theft Auto 6 looks to save console gaming revenue

In summary, when Grand Theft Auto is released, it will only be playable on consoles. Meanwhile, PC gamers will continue to keep YouTube active by watching console players explore the anticipated $2 billion game world.

Should you share similarities with certain friends of mine, you might find yourself polishing your gaming consoles or perhaps rushing to purchase one, all in anticipation of playing GTA 6 at its release. The fear of missing out (FOMO) is indeed a palpable sensation, and given that Rockstar Games typically takes a year to adapt their games for PC, there’s a high likelihood that countless, if not multitudes, of players won’t be able to contain their eagerness to play immediately.

As a result, the income from consoles is expected to increase significantly. Sales of games, hardware, subscriptions for online gaming, and the upcoming Shark Card 2.0 will likely empty the wallets of many gamers eager to play the next major hit, or even the biggest game of 2025.

To gauge the potential magnitude of Grand Theft Auto 6’s influence, let’s examine the staggering amount of revenue generated by its predecessor, Grand Theft Auto 5. From its debut in September 2013 up until the end of 2024, GTA 5 has raked in a whopping $9.54 billion (as reported by TweakTown).

Breaking it down, that equates to approximately $77 million per month or around $923 million annually. Given its lengthy lifespan, it’s reasonable to infer that GTA 5 generated more than a billion dollars in annual revenue at some stage.

Regardless of whether GTA 6 equals its anticipated value, it still generates a whopping billion dollars solely from game and additional in-game purchase sales. For novice gamers joining the platform, you’ll probably opt for Game Pass or PlayStation Plus subscriptions. Seasoned console players will likely renew their subscriptions as well.

It seems quite probable that Grand Theft Auto 6 will shatter all previous records and generate income significantly surpassing the impressive revenues achieved by GTA 5. Consequently, the projected $5 billion increase proposed by Newzoo starts to appear less surprising.

It seems we’re on different paths when it comes to gaming platforms, but let me tell you, I’m thrilled to own an Xbox Series X. Although most of my games are now played on PC using the Xbox app or Steam, I can’t wait to enjoy a significant amount of quality time in front of my television with this console.

Let’s just hope it doesn’t cost $100 — thanks, Nintendo.

How do you feel about it? Could the release of Grand Theft Auto 6 spark significant changes within the video game market? I’d love to hear your thoughts on this below. I’m really interested in hearing everyone’s opinions about what might transpire.
