Xbox Series X Exclusive Some Thought Cancelled Is Still Alive

As an ardent Xbox enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share some exciting news: A game exclusively for Xbox Series X and S, which some of us thought might have been stealthily scrapped, appears to be very much alive! This revelation comes from a recent job listing by Avalanche Studios, the brilliant minds behind the Just Cause series. Although we’re unsure about the game’s progress since its announcement four years ago, the fact that they’re hiring for development suggests it’s still in the works. So, let’s keep our fingers crossed and wait eagerly for more updates!

Avalanche Studios has recently affirmed that they continue to develop Contraband, a cooperative smuggler game initially announced in collaboration with Xbox Game Studios back in June 2021. Since then, the game has seemingly disappeared from sight, causing some Xbox enthusiasts to speculate if it had been secretly cancelled. However, it could be that the announcement was made early in development, the project is particularly ambitious and therefore taking longer than anticipated, or there have been developmental hurdles. These possibilities, either singularly or combined, might account for its prolonged absence of four years.

Do you want to be part of powering the next major video game title? We’re seeking a seasoned Senior DevOps Engineer for our Contraband team. This is your opportunity to influence how top-tier game development integrates with contemporary cloud systems. Your role will involve optimizing workflows, boosting Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD), and introducing innovation at every stage of the development process.

Although the job postings indicate that Contraband hasn’t been scrapped yet, there remains a scarcity of details about the game. The only information available is what was disclosed in 2021, which includes the fact that it will be a cooperative “smuggler’s utopia” set in the imaginary 70’s world of Bayan. Avalanche Studios has hinted that this project could be their most ambitious and visually stunning game to date, but further details have yet to be released.

The exact date when the game will reappear is yet unclear, but there’s a strong possibility it could show up on June 8 during the upcoming Xbox Games Showcase. Interestingly, it wasn’t among the games leaked recently, suggesting it might not be part of the initial lineup. However, since that leak didn’t cover all the games, it doesn’t necessarily mean the game won’t make an appearance.
