Upon examining the Razer Wolverine V3 Pro, it became clear that it had elevated the standard of what an Xbox controller can achieve. In my opinion, it’s about as close to perfection as we can get at this point in time.
Yet, Razer didn’t stop there; they improved it further, not by releasing a new version, but by offering a free software update instead. Typically, an update for a controller wouldn’t excite me much, but this one is exceptional.
The updated news highlights the improved user experience for PC gamers with the Wolverine V3 Pro controller. The recent firmware update allows seamless integration with Razer Synapse 4, although it has its detractors, it is more convenient to use on a PC compared to the Xbox-centric app we’ve previously been using.
After the update, you won’t need to switch your controller to Xbox mode for customization purposes anymore. Instead, you can directly open Synapse in the usual way, and it will be ready for you to adjust settings according to your preference.
Here’s the full changelog for this firmware update:
- Enabled Synapse 4 compatibility while controller is on PC mode
- Added Digital Trigger and RapidTrigger
- Added support for customizable polling rate
- Added 500 Hz polling rate mode target for wireless dongle without headphones connected
- Added 4 onboard profiles
- Added Controller Calibration feature
- Added “Ignore Diagonals” mode for d-pad. In this mode, d-pad will only support one cardinal direction at a time.
- Improved controller mode switching behaviour
There’s a wealth of intriguing content in there, but regrettably, I haven’t had a chance to thoroughly explore it all yet. The Digital Trigger seems to transform the triggers on the Wolverine V3 Pro into functional buttons, and it allows you to decide at what specific point they should activate.
It seems likely that there’s an application for this device that hasn’t crossed my mind yet, given that I usually keep its safety mechanisms activated, making them function more like simple buttons.
I plan to make full use of the four onboard profiles. To switch between them, simply press the circular button along with one of the four face buttons.
Instead of finding it necessary to use the same button layout for The Division 2 as I do for Call of Duty due to laziness, I won’t have to anymore, which makes me quite content.
To obtain the latest firmware for your Razer Wolverine V3 Pro controller, navigate to the download page first. Then, download the installer, launch it, and follow the step-by-step instructions shown on your screen. Once the installation is finished, feel free to dive into Synapse 4 and continue using it as usual.
