Switch 2 Exclusivity Concerns Surround Ys X: Proud Nordics as Plans for PS5 Are Undecided

Last year, Falcom faced criticism following their announcement of Ys X: Proud Nordics – an upgraded and improved edition of a game that had barely hit western markets, Ys X: Nordics.

It seems that the story has become more puzzling with Proud Nordics revealing the full Japanese version of Ys X. Surprisingly, this enhanced edition is only available on the newly introduced Nintendo Switch 2, as Falcom has mentioned they are still undecided about releasing it on other platforms like PS5 and PC.

Was it part of the strategy all along that Proud Nordics would exclusively handle the remaster for the Switch 2, as it appears now? This theory seems plausible, yet it might not be sufficient to defend Falcom against potential criticisms.

To sum up, there are concerns arising from some individuals regarding the early occurrence of Proud Nordics, and another group has expressed worries about its initial availability on a single platform for now.

As an avid gamer, I should mention that this latest announcement is solely for Japanese players at the moment. My favorite publisher, NIS America, who brings Falcom’s games to us in the west, hasn’t confirmed the existence of Proud Nordics yet. It makes sense, given they’re still keen on selling the original game.

It’s intriguing to find out if NISA will indeed localize this game in the upcoming months, and if Proud Nordics’ creation will also be available on platforms beyond the Nintendo Switch outside of Japan.
