There’s still a bit of time before Star Wars celebration in Japan, but EA has chosen to reveal a sneak peek of its upcoming announcement ahead of schedule. It’s been common knowledge that Bit Reactor and Respawn Entertainment have been collaborating on a fresh turn-based strategy game based in the Star Wars universe for quite some time now. Today, EA officially unveiled the game’s title, along with a brand new piece of significant artwork. The game is called Star Wars Zero Company, and the artwork showcases various character types from across the franchise, such as Jedi, Droids, Mandalorians, and more.
Judging by the picture, it appears that the upcoming game might take place during the prequel period. Although we can’t definitively confirm this, there is a Clone Trooper visible and a holographic panel showing a Battle Droid. Leaked images from the game hint at Bo Katan playing a part, but since she has been active in the canon from the Clone Wars era up until after Return of the Jedi, this doesn’t narrow down the potential timeline too much. We’ll likely have more concrete details on April 19th, when EA promises to reveal a “world-exclusive first look.
Currently, there are no confirmed platforms for “Star Wars Zero Company” revealed yet. However, it’s quite likely that PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PS5 will be among them. There’s a chance the game may also be announced for PS4, Xbox One, or even the Nintendo Switch 2, considering Respawn Entertainment brought “Star Wars Jedi: Survivor” to both previous-gen consoles. Yet, we can only speculate at this point and will have to wait until this coming Saturday to find out more about potential platform releases.
After we learn more about the Zero Company, it’ll be intriguing to observe Star Wars enthusiasts’ reactions. Given that a turn-based tactics game departs from what followers are accustomed to from EA and Respawn, these two companies have demonstrated their commitment to the franchise. This is quite distinct from Cal Kestis’ escapades, yet this diversity could give the game an edge over other Star Wars games currently available. If indeed Zero Company takes place during the Clone Wars, that aspect might pique fans’ interest, as games set in that period are relatively scarce these days.
Looking forward, it appears that the complete unveiling of Star Wars: Project Maverick will justify the anticipation. EA has been methodically generating excitement for this upcoming reveal, which suggests a strong faith in the final product’s quality. This certainly bodes well, yet we won’t know until April 19th if their confidence is merited.
