For Debbie Webster (played by Sue Devaney), life on Coronation Street was both joyful and sorrowful, as she embraced each moment despite her ongoing dementia tests.
The beloved character was devastated when she was told last week that she may have the condition.
On the scheduled memory assessment day, it fell on Debbie to drive her brother Kevin (Michael Le Vell) for his chemotherapy appointment instead, as their sibling Carl (Jonathan Howard) hadn’t shown up to pick him up as arranged.
After the clinic followed up on Debbie’s appointments, she finally departed when Carl arrived at the hospital, stating that he was delayed because of a possible job opportunity keeping him back.
In the heat of the Rover disputes, Carl eventually confessed to Kevin that it was him who had the altercation in the car park with Kevin’s wife, Abi (Sally Carman-Duttine), without mentioning that he had initially asked Abi out.
Meanwhile, Debbie was shown following instructions for the memory tests.
The nurse informed her that she did well in certain areas, but some of her responses had caused worry, leading to the need for an MRI scan.
In an effort to remain collected and poised, Debbie maintained a continuous flow of conversation. Upon returning to her hotel, she assembled her family and partner, Ronnie Bailey (Vinta Morgan), for a surprising proposition!
After a significant change of heart, Debbie agreed to marry Ronnie, who had previously been turned down by her, as she chose to embrace a vibrant and fulfilling lifestyle.
Ronnie was delighted to accept, and the Websters celebrated.
However, when Carl stepped aside for a personal phone call regarding investments and rummaged through Debbie’s bag nearby in search of a pen, he was taken aback to discover a note referring to her dementia evaluations.
Carl conversed with Debbie, who maintained that no confirmation had been made – but he found it hard to accept that she was truthful with Ronnie regarding her health concerns.
Will Debbie tell Ronnie what she’s going through?
