The mutants in Stalker 2 will finally drop loot, making them less of a bullet sink

The creators of Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl, the post-apocalyptic shooter game, have unveiled a plan for upcoming updates. They’ve hinted at adding new weapons, more intelligent enemies, and a user-friendly development toolkit for modders. One particularly exciting modification is for those who felt let down after shooting numerous bullets into 30 to 50 wild boars without any rewards. From now on, slain mutants will provide some form of loot instead of being entirely unyielding.

In the developer’s post on Steam, there’s a hint about the type of rewards mutants will drop – a tooth next to “mutant loot”. This suggests that these rewards might include useful body parts like gizzards and entrails. Right now, when you kill a mutant, they don’t yield anything, unlike defeated human enemies who can be looted for items such as bullets, food, and boots. This means that battling multiple mutants can quickly deplete your ammunition supply, especially the tougher ones. Not finding any reward after using up valuable ammo can be frustrating to some players.

As I mentioned earlier, there are other changes coming up as well. The developers have outlined their other focus areas for the next three months in their post. Enhancing enemy and ally AI is one of their top priorities, with improvements in cover/flanking use and limited grenades. If everything goes according to plan, mutants will start consuming fallen victims and respond to threats. We can also expect two new weapons, as well as widescreen support and additional stabilization.

On the list is a beta version of a toolkit called “ModKit” which developers plan to release. Although Stalker 2 already has many useful mods, including one that increases mutant loot, this development kit will include a guide and may simplify the process for modders. Furthermore, the developers aim to incorporate Steam Workshop support, allowing players to effortlessly download mods directly from there.

According to GSC Game World, there’s a possibility that the mission objectives could be shifted from Quarter 2 to a later period due to potential instability within the Zone.

Initially, Stalker 2 debuted with numerous glitches but still garnered positive responses due to its engaging survival-shooter gameplay that had some elements malfunctioning. In our review of Stalker 2, James described it as an “appealing survival shooter, albeit with pieces coming loose.” Shortly after the release of this radioactive first-person shooter, the developers acknowledged that critical features like the “A-life” system for patrolling squads were not functioning properly. However, they’ve consistently and regularly addressed these issues since then, with the most substantial batch of improvements being implemented last month.

In the game, James had previously transformed into a Beastmaster with numerous mutated minions. It makes me ponder what emotions he might be experiencing now that these companions of his are about to turn into skin-able loot creatures.
