Rumour: New PlayStation Portable Capable of Playing PS5 Games at Lower Resolutions

It’s been circulating that Sony might be developing two new devices: undeniably, the long-awaited PlayStation 6, and a fresh portable system, designed to run your existing PS5 games natively.

Initially, it might seem like an unrealistic tale, but upon closer examination, it carries a sense of authenticity. Notably, reputable sources such as Tom Henderson from Insider Gaming and Digital Foundry have hinted at having heard similar claims.

The nature of the device remains a little unclear, however.

However, on the NeoGAF forum, hardware enthusiast KeplerL2, who initially hinted at the handheld’s development, stated that it has the capability to run PlayStation 5 games; however, it may not do so with the same resolution or frame rate primarily because of its lower memory bandwidth.

It’s clear that Sony has achieved significant success with the PS Portable, and this triumph might have given them the confidence to introduce a new handheld device.

It’s intriguing to consider if a device that can play the whole PS5 game library would be appealing, however, it seems costly as well. As for the future, it’s unclear where this product might stand next to the potential PS6.

As a gaming enthusiast, it’s becoming evident that we’re merely peeking at fragments of the whole puzzle with all these whispers and rumors swirling around. Yet, where there’s smoke, there’s usually fire, and it seems undeniable to me that Sony is indeed stirring something new in the pot, a potential portable gaming project.
