Switch 2 Fans Can’t Stand Seeing Nintendo’s New Console Compared to the 12-Year-Old PS4

Two fans are growing progressively more agitated towards Digital Foundry, as these technology specialists persistently draw comparisons between Nintendo’s latest console and the PlayStation 4.

Discussions have centered around the fact that PlayStation now serves as a benchmark for the latest consoles, yet fans find themselves growing irritated due to recurring comparisons with Sony’s 12-year-old device.

Over the weekend, my friends and I noticed something rather interesting about the Switch 2’s third-party games – they seemed to run just as smoothly as their PS4 versions. We even used games like Elden Ring and the Director’s Cut of Yakuza 0 as examples to back up our observations.

To put it into perspective, they emphasized just how remarkable it is to have such capabilities in a compact device, while noting that the latest Nintendo gadget boasts several contemporary features lacking in the PS4, such as DLSS and ray-tracing technology.

However, during a recent playthrough of Cyberpunk 2077, the development team faced renewed criticism due to likening their expansive sci-fi RPG to the troubled PlayStation 4 version.

A viewer jokingly commented that, as per Digital Foundry’s findings, the performance capabilities of older-generation consoles seem to mysteriously get better with the passage of time.

I can’t wait to find out how much better the PS5’s performance will be compared to when the Switch 3 comes out.

An additional comment was made: “The coverage of Switch 2 has been disappointing thus far! The visuals on screen and their descriptions don’t align at all. When you compare Switch 2 games with their PS4 counterparts, it’s evident that the Switch 2 version looks significantly superior. It’s clear from this comparison that the Switch 2 is not standard PS4 hardware.

In response to criticism on the forum ResetEra, Digital Foundry’s Alex Battaglia expressed surprise that some individuals were apparently displeased by his comparison of the performance to the PS4.

He went on to say: “The discussion revolves around a GPU consuming up to 30 watts of Amperes, which is an older model and less energy-efficient. This GPU isn’t at the Series S level, let alone comparable to the PS5 in many key aspects.

Although Ampere is a more progressive design compared to the PS5’s RDNA 1.5/2, it’s crucial to note that power consumption limitations significantly impact its performance, despite an appealing array of features.

Absolutely, Digital Foundry acknowledges we’re in the early stages, and there’s a lot more testing to go. In regard to their Cyberpunk 2077 analysis, they note that the demo encompasses zones from the Phantom Liberty expansion, which, as you know, didn’t launch on PlayStation 4.

However, it appears that the references to Sony’s previous generation console won’t disappear anytime soon, and we anticipate that fan discontent will persist until the system has been released.
