Deliverance 2, Warhorse Studios has now released Patch 1.2.4 for their popular and critically acclaimed medieval RPG. The update was made public on Tuesday morning and can be downloaded and installed immediately on Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, and PlayStation 5 systems.
In this update, I’ve incorporated adjustments for balance and resolved some issues that will be detailed in the upcoming patch notes. However, what truly captures my attention is the introduction of the Hardcore Mode – an exciting new gameplay option for Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. This mode substantially increases the challenge level. At its heart, Hardcore Mode conceals your location on the map, eliminates directional pointers from the HUD compass, takes away the ability to fast travel, and disables the combat HUD (including perfect block and riposte markers). Additionally, it enhances enemy AI so they become more hostile when they outnumber you.
Traveling through medieval Bohemia with Henry is already challenging on its own, but choosing Hardcore Mode adds an extra layer of difficulty. At minimum, you’ll need to select three unique negative traits. If you manage to complete the game while having all these traits, you’ll earn a distinguished achievement. These traits will negatively impact your progress in various ways, such as slowing down experience gain, making it harder to maintain a good reputation, decreasing your carrying capacity, and more. Some of these traits are reminiscent of Hardcore Mode from the original Kingdom Come, but Warhorse Studios indicates that most of them are entirely new.
In Hardcore Mode, developers aim not only to make the game more challenging but also to enhance the overall immersion. To assist you in exploring the map, you can ask NPCs for directions. However, the amount of help you receive depends on your reputation and presentation within KCD2. Furthermore, you’ll find yourself naturally observing landmarks in the wilderness.
In a recent blog post, Warhorse senior game designer Karel Kolmann shared that they were pleased with the Hardcore Mode in the initial game, but aimed to avoid simply replicating it. They retained a few perks from the first game and created new ones to offer a fresh challenge. It’s not just about increasing the difficulty, but also about enhancing immersion, he added.
In the new Hardcore Mode of our game, we’ve made some significant changes compared to the previous version. Now, instead of showing your location on a map or compass, you can interact with various NPCs in the world to learn your whereabouts. This adds an extra layer of immersion as you may encounter fellow travelers on the road who can provide directions.
If you’re seeking additional difficulty, here’s another bonus feature that eliminates roadside begging altogether. And if you truly enjoy testing your limits, Kolmann suggests combining it with the “Somnambulant” sleepwalking option, which may find you disoriented and lost in unfamiliar places after a full night’s rest. Essentially, every bed becomes a teleportation device.

I don’t think I’ll push things as far as you might, but I’m definitely eager to embark on a fresh adventure using Hardcore Mode in KCD2 someday. To be honest, the game becomes less challenging in the middle and late stages once you’re equipped with top-tier weapons and armor, so I can’t wait to tackle it again with increased difficulty.
Deliverance 2 this year, as hinted in the game’s trailer. To put it simply, the RPG is currently thriving overall. The significant update last month addressed most significant bugs and introduced official mod support on PC via Steamworks and the Steam Workshop.
Without a doubt, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is considered a strong contender for Game of the Year in 2025, given its exceptional reviews from both critics and enthusiasts, as well as its impressive sales figures just a few days following its launch.
The sequel to Kingdom Come: Deliverance, titled Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, is now available on Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC platforms (including Steam, Epic Games Store, and GOG), and PS5. This role-playing game is truly remarkable for fans of the genre, so if you’re a fan as well, I highly recommend giving it a try. Currently, it’s selling at CDKeys for only $50.39, which is an excellent price!
