Gerry Turner is living life to the fullest.
Four months since announcing his diagnosis with the uncommon bone marrow cancer, Waldenström’s macroglobulinemia, the former participant on The Golden Bachelor provided an uplifting health update.
On the April 15th episode of the Bachelor Happy Hour podcast, Gerry expressed his well-being saying, “I feel fantastic!”, adding that he doesn’t seek treatment unless he experiences symptoms.
The 73-year-old, who has daughters Jenny (age 50) and Angie (age 42) from his late wife Toni Turner, explained how his regular blood tests have been modified over time, giving him hope that his doctor believes he may live with cancer for several more years.
Gerry mentioned that he gets regular blood tests every six months these days, and his doctor has suggested moving to three-month intervals once he turns 75. This gives him hope, as it indicates that his doctor anticipates he’ll live a few more years. However, Gerry emphasized that overall, he feels great.
After retiring, the former restaurant owner opened up about how his diagnosis has led him to adopt a more accepting perspective towards life.
Gerry shared that since receiving his diagnosis, he genuinely feels honored to live each day as if it were his last. He doesn’t refuse any opportunities and is more receptive to a wide range of emotions and experiences.
Indeed, enhancing that sense of moving on for the former reality star – who parted ways with ex Theresa Nist in April 2024, having met her on The Golden Bachelor in 2023 – is now his new companion.
When my partner suggests an activity, she often begins with, “Would you like to try…?” Without her finishing the question, I always reply affirmatively. As a result, I end up participating in all sorts of things.
He went on saying, “Life becomes thrilling as there’s an underlying sense that you still have much to experience and the time to do it might be limited, so seize every opportunity. In essence, this uncertainty can be seen as beneficial.
In my advice-giving role, I’ve found myself treading lightly when it comes to dishing out all the juicy details about my fresh, exhilarating romance. Sharing too much, too quickly can sometimes lead to unnecessary complications, so I prefer to keep certain aspects private for now.
He affirmed that he’s currently in a relationship. “Things seem to be going smoothly so far,” he added, cautiously avoiding revealing more details to avoid jinxing it. Additionally, he expressed his desire to give his previous marriage some space before moving forward.
Gerry suggested, “Perhaps my thinking is outdated, or perhaps it’s not as crucial as I believe, but in the spirit of politeness, I’d prefer to handle this situation gradually.
