New Runescape game hits number one on Steam

On an ordinary Tuesday, a surprising new game has swept through Steam like a sudden gust of wind. The developers behind the classic game Runescape, Jagex, unveiled this unexpected title without any prior announced release date until all of a sudden, it had one.

Runescape: Dragonwilds is a fresh take on the classic Runescape game from Jagex, shifting away from the traditional Old School Runescape style to adopt a third-person perspective. Instead of a Massively Multiplayer Online (MMO) experience, they’ve dived into the increasingly popular survival genre.

In the trailer for its release, we find that explorers are embarking from Port Sarim, a coastal town in Asgarnia, in search of the fabled lost land of Ashenfall. You’ll have the chance to lead these characters, whether you prefer to go it alone or team up with as many as three companions.

In Runescape, the familiar concept of “grinding” is cherished, while Dragonwilds offers a blend of this sensation along with an expansive survival-themed world for exploration. Players will have opportunities to concoct potions, manufacture equipment, and advance their skills in order to confront the escalating menace posed by the encroaching dragons.

At Dragonwilds, we offer an innovative approach to resource collection. Instead of relying on traditional methods, we have a multi-source resource gathering system in place. You can fell numerous trees by casting a magical axe, or extract mineral veins just by snapping your fingers with the help of wild, shape-shifting magic.

In a simpler, more conversational style: I was captivated by a game named Enshrouded last year, and ever since, I’ve been searching for one that offers more of an emphasis on questing while still trying to recreate the enchanting cooperative aspect. Runescape: Dragonwilds seems to fit the bill as it looks amazing!

So far, Dragonwilds seems to be where I’m headed next. After wrapping up a different unnamed project, I’ll jump right in to the world that I’ve lived in for more than 20 years. No matter its genre, Runescape always draws me back.
