If circumstances had allowed it, we would have already enjoyed the second expansion for The Division 2, “Battle for Brooklyn,” for nearly a year by now.
Five years have passed since the last story-based DLC expansion for The Division 2, Warlords of New York, was released in 2020. Finally, a new one is coming, and we’re excited to share more about it during the Battle for Brooklyn reveal stream on April 23rd.
Initially planned for release in Year 5 of 2024, the developers at Massive Entertainment decided to postpone its launch to focus on enhancing the overall quality of the game, particularly improvements in the user experience.
In the post you’ve shared earlier, we get a glimpse of a small part of the fresh setting, which is, as hinted by the title, situated in Brooklyn. Long-time followers of the series may recall that Brooklyn was initially teased in the E3 2013 trailer for The Division, but it was swapped with Manhattan in the game’s final edition.
Initially, Brooklyn made a subtle appearance in the initial game, as a compact map served as an introduction and tutorial level. Later on, your character was deployed to Manhattan.
The narrative of Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 has progressed steadily since the introduction of Warlords of New York, primarily through its seasonal approach. However, after five years, we find ourselves revisiting the same maps and missions, although they have undergone various changes in presentation over time.
In truth, the choice to switch the scheduled seasonal characters for 2024 and the extended wait for the DLC has kept me away from playing The Division 2 for quite some time now. I often find myself in these lulls due to the repetition of exploring the same familiar territories.
I’ve invested close to a thousand hours in this game, so I’m absolutely thrilled to soon move forward and experience the upcoming expansion, which includes a fresh map to discover. The release date is April 23, meaning it’s not far off now.
