The 2025 Emmys have found its emcee.
On September 14, the 77th Emmy Awards will be hosted by comedian Nate Bargatze, with the event taking place at the Peacock Theatre located in Los Angeles.
On April 16, Nate expressed his immense gratitude for being chosen to emcee such a renowned award ceremony. He’s thrilled beyond words and eagerly looks forward to collaborating with CBS to design an evening of entertainment suitable for families globally.
46 years old, this individual has previously taken on hosting responsibilities, having served twice as the host for Saturday Night Live and more recently leading CBS’ special Nate Bargatze’s Nashville Christmas in December.
As a devoted admirer, I can’t help but share the news that the renowned stand-up comedian has graced our screens in not one, but six comedy specials. Among these, his latest masterpiece, “Your Friend, Nate Bargatze,” premiered on Netflix, and just like everyone else, I eagerly watched it in December.
Cris Abrego, chairman of the Television Academy, praised Nate as one of the most popular and amusing comedians in the industry whose unique style of humor appeals to a wide range of generations worldwide. In a statement, he expressed excitement about utilizing Nate’s distinctive viewpoint to entertain viewers tuning into this year’s Emmy Awards broadcast.
Nate will follow in the footsteps of the dynamic father-son team, Eugene Levy and Dan Levy, as they are set to host the 2024 Emmys, a role that has been offered to them following a previous invitation.
Dan mentioned to the LA Times during a joint interview prior to the event that he had been previously asked but didn’t feel it was the appropriate moment for some reason. This year, they asked again and I believe we exhausted our reasons for not participating. It appeared as an entertaining challenge – although it’s quite a big one in reality.
Eugene remarked that we were both feeling a bit jittery, as this wasn’t an easy task,” he said. “After all, you expose yourself when you participate, and one might question if the rewards justify the risks. We could simply sit back and enjoy watching it on TV during the fall. But it seems there was something compelling us to take part.
Nate’s selection to emcee the 2025 Emmy Awards arrives during a period where comedians have been receiving acclaim for their roles in award show hosting: Nikki Glaser received glowing appraisals as host of the Golden Globes in January, while Conan O’Brien was lauded for his performance at the 2025 Oscars.
In reality, their performances were such a hit that they have both already been invited back to host the upcoming ceremonies next year.
As I shared with The Hollywood Reporter back in March, hosting the Golden Globes this year has been the absolute pinnacle of fun for me throughout my career. Frankly, I can barely contain my excitement to do it again – and not just any time, but alongside the incredible cast of The White Lotus! I’m hoping they’ll finally see my worth and give me a role in season four, where I could bring a Scandinavian Pilates instructor with a mysterious past to life.
