It’s been buzzed that award-winning actress Mikey Madison, who recently took home the Best Actress trophy for her role in Sean Baker’s Anora, is being considered for a part in Shawn Levy’s yet-to-be-titled Star Wars film. In his most recent newsletter, industry insider Jeff Sneider hinted at some details about the project, mentioning that Madison “may have been offered a significant role” in the upcoming Star Wars production. However, it remains unclear if Madison will accept this offer, as she’s also being considered for director Zach Cregger’s new Resident Evil movie. If the filming schedules for these two projects collide, Madison would face the challenging decision of picking one project over the other.
Sneider provided further information about the cast for Levy’s film. As stated by him, the director is actively auditioning for the lead character, a 15-year-old boy, along with the boy’s mother, two antagonists, and another female role that Madison has been offered. Sneider also mentioned that Ryan Gosling, rumored to be the main actor in the movie, “is likely” to attend Star Wars Celebration Japan this week.
Following his phenomenal achievement with the box-office smash hit “Deadpool & Wolverine” from last summer, Levy has been earmarked for some time to helm a Star Wars film. As of now, there’s no fixed release date for this project. However, speculation suggests that production might start as soon as this fall, potentially making it the next Star Wars movie to debut after 2026’s “The Mandalorian & Grogu“.
At the start of this month, there was some positive news about Levy’s Star Wars film as writer Jonathan Tropper mentioned “we are currently working on it.” Unfortunately, he couldn’t disclose any specific information, but emphasized that the project remains under active development. Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm, confirmed that the movie’s story takes place after the events of The Rise of Skywalker and is a separate piece of work.
Following her roles in movies such as “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” and “Scream”, Madison achieved a significant breakthrough last year with “Anora”. Her powerful portrayal of a sex worker whose fairy tale romance takes an unexpected turn captivated the audience. This film served as a platform to showcase her versatile acting skills, seamlessly blending humor and drama. As she continues climbing up the Hollywood ladder, it’s no wonder that Lucasfilm is considering collaborating with her. With her ability to bring a wide range of characters to life in the distant galaxy, it’s hoped that she might land a substantial role if she decides to join them. It would be unfortunate if such a talented actress were cast in an unremarkable part.
If the rumor is correct, it appears challenging for Madison to accommodate both a Star Wars and Resident Evil film in her schedule. The former has a release date set for December 2027 by Disney, while the latter, with a September 2026 release date confirmed by Sony, seems to be moving swiftly into production. If casting for the Star Wars movie is already underway, it’s possible that Levy might want to start filming earlier rather than later. However, more information about the projects may be revealed at Celebration, helping fans understand better how things are progressing.
