The Roses – TRAILER

In 1989, there was a movie called “The War of the Roses,” which seemed perfect for Michael Douglas to star in due to its bitter portrayal of a divorcing couple. It turned out to be a successful film, earning $160 million. Now, we have a new take on this story with the release of the trailer for “The Roses.” (This is described as a modern retelling rather than a remake.)

In my perspective, it appears that life seems effortless for the seemingly flawless pair, Ivy (Olivia Colman) and Theo (Benedict Cumberbatch), with thriving professions, a heartwarming marriage, and wonderful children. However, behind the veneer of their apparently idyllic existence, a tempest is gathering – as Theo’s career plummets while Ivy’s professional aspirations soar, a combustible blend of intense competition and concealed bitterness sets ablaze.

In the movie, directed by Jay Roach, famed for his work on “Bombshell” and “Austin Powers”, boasts an impressive ensemble cast. This includes Academy Award winner Olivia Colman (known for “Wicked Little Letters” and “The Favourite”), alongside Academy Award nominee Benedict Cumberbatch (recognized for “Doctor Strange” and “The Power of the Dog”). The film also features Andy Samberg (“Palm Springs”, “Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping”), Allison Janney (“I, Tonya”), Belinda Bromilow (“The Great”), Sunita Mani (“GLOW”), Ncuti Gatwa (“Barbie”, “Doctor Who”), Jamie Demetriou (“Fleabag”), Zoë Chao (“Nightbitch”), and Kate McKinnon (“Barbie”, “Ghostbusters”). The screenplay is penned by Academy Award nominee Tony McNamara, who has previously worked on “Poor Things” and “The Favourite”.

Release date to be confirmed but tis likely to be an Autumn 2025
