Microsoft’s AI CEO Mustafa Suleyman says we won’t need “hard dollars” in the AI era — Intelligence will be the new currency

The innovative use of Generative AI is significantly altering our human perspective on life, transforming nearly everything in sight. Although certain individuals express apprehension regarding this technology, mainly due to safety and confidentiality issues, its widespread acceptance is undeniably accelerating.

I was astonished to witness the rapid surge in user base for OpenAI’s ChatGPT, which swelled by a million users within an hour following the announcement of their ChatGPT-4o image generator. This explosion led to a viral trend of Studio Ghibli-inspired memes on various social media platforms. Interestingly, a separate report declared ChatGPT as the most frequented app among over 10,500 AI tools, attracting more daily visits than Copilot managed in an entire month.

During a recent chat on YouTube with Jules Terpak, the CEO of Microsoft’s AI division, Mustafa Suleyman, offered intriguing glimpses and forecasts regarding our journey into the age of artificial intelligence (as shared through vitrupo on X).

As stated by the executive, the future may take an intricate turn, shaped significantly by advanced Generative AI, potentially leading us towards a harmonious society characterized by Universal Basic Income.

We are working towards rendering intelligence, our unique trait that allows us to foresee complex situations and act accordingly, more affordable and widely available. In essence, this is similar to giving you a dedicated team of assistance to assist in bringing your ideas to fruition.

The executive acknowledges that the method isn’t identical to making tangible money, but insists that it’s crucial to have cash nonetheless. He further compares cash and intelligence by stating that they share the ability to accomplish tasks effectively, much like how both can be used productively.

In essence, providing individuals with “intelligence” isn’t much different from handing them money. According to Suleyman, having access to such intelligence can increase one’s wealth significantly. This could lead us towards a future where people may require less traditional income to sustain their lives compared to the current situation.

In this hypothetical situation, the leader envisions a future where investing in items derived from intelligence (intelligence-based commodities) becomes unsustainable due to AI’s ability to offer such services for free. Consequently, individuals may require less money to purchase tangible goods.
